Owen decided he is done breastfeeding. It's been about 4 days now and he has not asked once to nurse. I don't know exactly when he went from nursing 2 times a day to one time but now he decided no more. I'm glad that it went this way, that is always what I said, I'll leave it up to him. I'm happy and so is he. I can eat whatever I want to again and don't have to read all the packages at the grocery store anymore. I'm so glad that I was able to nurse for so long and that it worked out so great for us.

Sad and happy at the same time? I'm also letting Ava decide when she's done (Owen's just about a week older than she is). Sometimes I wish she would cut down a little-morning, before nap if I'm home, and always before bed, and thru the night (every freakin' 45 min to soothe her throat!)-but then again it's one of my favorite things about our time together. A very rewarding experience, knowing that I can sustain another human being solely w/ my own body! Good for you 2 for making it so long!

Isnt' it a wierd but good feeling at the same time?!?! Zac did the same thing, he decided he was done after 13 months! The really funny thing is that now, if I happen to be changing in front of him, he looks up at "them" with the funniest look. The first time he did it, a few weeks after stopping, I still had milk (i still do three months later ) so I knelt down to see if he wanted some...he just laughed and ran away.
Anyhow...another milestone. Bittersweet. Congrats on making it as long as you have!

I'm happy but yes also a little sad at the same time. It was amazing and I really enjoyed the cuddle time together but he still cuddles up with his bottles as well so I won't miss that too much. It's different though since everybody can give him a bottle, but than he is such a Mamasboy that he always wants me to give it to him, LOL.

:hug:Melanie. It is a bittersweet moment but it's great that he has self-weaned. Your little man is growing up!!

It is bittersweet. If I'd let B have her way, I think she would have nursed until kindergarten. *feeble laugh* After about 16 months, I started to sort of wish she'd start to wean herself; however, when I had to cut her off at 19 months because I got pregnant, I was so sad.

It's great that you were able to let Owen decide to wean on his own...and that he's still your "mama's boy" and wants that cuddle time when he has a bottle. :-)

I was only able to BF one of my children, due to illness and meds. She only fed for 6 months but it is such a different bond than with my other girls....I can't explain it......not that I love her more or anything like that, just a different connection....it never goes away.

Ahhhh, I've heard its hard to let go after doing it for so long. I had a good friend that just weaned her one year old, and she was getting emotional a few days after he was completely done. {{{HUGS}}} I'm glad Owen knows who gives the best bottles, though. Noah is the same way. For some reason, they must taste better if my hand is on the other end, lol.

Oh, and go crazy with the food, Melanie! You were a trooper sticking out the diet for so long! You deserve ice cream, milk shakes, and lots and lots of tofu! Kidding about the tofu...unless you like it, lol.

Awww, good for you for sticking it out until he decided he was done! You definetly deserve to splurge on all those foods you missed out on!

Good for you Melanie, Cooper did the same he self weaned at just over twelve months, it was good I didn't have to make that decision, I always feel guilty for stopping with Parker.

I fully applaud any woman who is able to breastfeed a reflux baby, expecially by going MSPI. WTG.
