meg had gj tube placed yesteday and just feels awful. Horrible diarrhea, lethargy, and slight fever and more persistent gagging and retching. talked to her ped. and he says to just watch her because she should get used to the feeds. Anyone have any experience with this? any ideas on how to make it easier on her? Thanks so much! I'm desperate to make her more comfortable.

Sorry, wish I could offer you advice, but Daniel just has a G tube, and that went very smoothly for us. Has the doctor told you about any symptoms that would indicate a problem? In my opinion, the lethargy and fever don't necessarily seem related to feedings.
I tought it wasn't related at first, but she's retching so much... I just don't know. She had a G tube for a long time and we did fine with that. I talked to the GI and he said somekids just don't handle J feeds really well, and to gradually start doing those. We don'thave that option, though because she's aspirating so badly. I just wish she felt better!!!

Alex had a g-tube and was then switched to a g-j tube. For whatever reason, the g-j didn't work well for him. It caused him to vomit more frequently and he started vomiting bile and blood. We very quickly had to have another surgery to have a seperate j-tube placed so now he has two buttons, one for the g- and one for the j-. I don't know why some kids tolerate it and others don't. I would give it a little time to settle down though. Hopefully things will resolve themselves once she gets used to the new feedings.

Shae-Lynne has a j-tube only and it is on a very slow drip, over a 20 hour period. If Roni tries to put the rate up she vomits and if Roni tried to change the formula she will also puke. Sorry I have no info on the g-j tube. But as far as the lethary and fever, I agree with Becky, maybe Meg has something else going on.
Best wishes, hope she feels better soon.
