View Full Version : Esophagitis=Fever?
Got to keep this short- maiya has never been this bad, waking every 5 minutes screaming.
Her ped says it is not hand foot and mouth. Strep negative
SHe has all the same symptoms as usual with gerd, but fever now. Voice worse than ever. She is teething too.
Could esophagitis cause fever, when it has gone really severe???
I am at a loss. Taking her to the children's is futile here- just add to her suffering and wont see GI. Next GI appointment is in october!
ANy ideas???
Samuels mom 06-22-2006, 10:53 PM Sorry - I have no good suggestions for you. I hope you can get into see the GI soon!!! Poor Maiya. I hope you can get some sleep!
great big hugs are coming your way!!
I am getting worried:
Here are her symptoms:
fever which responds to advil
wont drink anything -but still not dehydrated
drooling: keeps mouth open , wont swallow- too painful to swallow. Drool is thick like honey
extremely hoarse voice like i have never heard her
belching: now, when i give her meds, she belches and has actually vomitted a few times- totally unlike her
I would take her to the ER but time and time again, they have done nothing and it only made her histerical. It is a long weekend here- no docs available. Have to wait until monday to speak to her GI nurse
Please tell me what you think??
Can strictures cause fever? Can severe esophagitis cause fever??
scarlet 06-23-2006, 01:11 AM pneumonia? does she have a cough? Its called mytoplasmic pneumonia? cooper had it, in Feb it took ages to diagnose cause he did'nt have a wheeze, same thing really hot but responded to meds.
it is an atypical pneumonia. how long has she had the fever now?
We were actually booked into hospital for a rare disorder before realising this.
He had the same symptoms on the weekend and had two burst ear drums.
It could also be a virus, they just come and go with no explanation.
I hope she is feeling better soon. Go to the hospital if you feel this isn't normal- good luck, let us know how she is.
Debbie 06-23-2006, 01:20 AM I would take her to the ER if she is worring you that much, again it's mothers intuition, if it feels wrong it probably is...and if it's not .... now you know and you can be at ease a bit.
dattia2001 06-24-2006, 09:04 PM We've been through this kind of stuff with Zola when she was younger. What we found in time was that it was an accumulation of things that was bothering her, heat +teething + allergy season made her have unexplained fever and horrible reflux. Now that she is older she tells me what is bothering her and I can treat it. It is still the same things except for no fevers and teething, evidently. Teething is pretty horrible especially with all the drool. She is more refluxy during the summer even now and the weirdest things set her off . The burping is definately reflux related, Zo does that when she isn't adequately protected. Poor Maiya sounds like she is in a lot of pain, it blows my mind that there is nobody helping you with this. You and Maiya shouldn't have to live this way. I wish I knew somebody around here that can give Maiya better care.
scarlet 06-24-2006, 09:06 PM JoJo, how is she now?
Noah's Mom 06-24-2006, 10:09 PM I hope Maiya is doing better, Jojo! I'm worried, so please update us when you can. Lots and lots of {{{HIUGS}}}.
Cam's sahm 06-24-2006, 11:11 PM Sorry if I'm taking crazy here but in San Diego, our ER's are filled with illegals and they get FREE health care! I would Drive across the boarder and take her to and American ER with a novel of her history. Your healthcare is c.r.a.p. ((((((ginormous HUG)))))) Honestly, your posts break my heart, is there another province that you can go to? Have you requested the newely approved prevacid solutabs?
Newly approved solutabs\ in canada
is it true - as of when
sorry- the question mark is not working on my keynboard
\i am very happy to tell you that we had a horrific 4 days where maiya woke every 5 minutes. the fever is gone and she is much better.. thanks to you guys, we doubled her advil and it helped lots
she had a virus, plus huge teething and reflux, plus both ears filled with wax
our ped seems so devastated every time he sees us
last night she only woke 5 times, so i pray this continues.
i got the zantac today but will wait for hubbies return to give it as it scares me to go it alone- as a babe, it made her so irritable and a complete insomniac, so i will wait
i am going to the pharmacy to get her prevacid every 7 days now- will see if it helps
what is this about solutabs in canada!!!
scarlet 06-26-2006, 07:21 PM I am so glad you checked in I was worried about you guys, I am glad that Maiya is feeling better now.
Good luck with the zantac.
lm8804 06-26-2006, 08:39 PM Jojo, I posted a little while back in one of your threads, as well as in the medications section about the solutabs. The prevacid solutabs are in Canada now- they're called prevacid fastabs. Few docs or pharmacists know about it. They only come in 30mg pills though. You need to get a script from the doc that specifically says prevacid fastabs (as opposed to capsules) and ask the pharmacy to order them in. The company that makes them is Abbott pharmaceuticals, they are actually based in Montreal. You can look up my post under medications section if you want the company's phone number. The only real advantage to the solutabs that I can tell, is if she doesn't take the capsules well (in applesauce or however else you give them). Otherwise, they basically work the same way. They do dissove quite quickly into very small granules (a bit smaller than the capsules), but the pill itself is also quite hard. Still have to wait 30 minutes before a meal. Also have to split them, which is a bit harder than it sounds as there's no cut line... it's impossible to get two equal doses and you lose some of the medication that flakes off as well as the granules that get split along the cut line. I don't know how much of the actual dose gets lost, doesn't seem like too much, but definitely some.
Glad to hear that Maiya is feeling better.
