Well the "unconventional" allergist has said that Parkers problems with reflux run a lot deeper that allergies (which wasn't what she said on the first visit) and now we should see a homeopath.

She said that the medicines that Parker is on is making his body worse in the long run for some strange reason I couldn't fathom, something about inability to digest proteins as he gets older.

I feel so deflated today, I am at a reflux stand still!

Does anyone have anything good to say about homeopaths?

edited to add: I forgot to add that she said if the homeopath doesn't work maybe it is just a behaviour problem he has. I need to sleep for a week.

Rachel, I have thought about going to a homeopath with Brooke to see what they could offer us....but haven't done so yet, as I would like to get some more tests done for Brooke first, so we can determine how bad her reflux is, among other things.

I say it is worth a try, anything is worth a try...I am going to make an appointment with the chiropractor here for Brooke has I have had 2 seperate people mention to me that they have used them for reflux and colic with excellent results :)

Let me know how it goes if you decide to go.

As for the stand still :( Just when you think something works or something is getting better it turns and bites ya on the butt!

I am here if you need to talk :)

Thanks Kimberley, you try the chiropractor and I will try the homeopath OK- then we will compare LOL.

I just felt fed up today, it is just getting tiresome (doesn't help that they both have been sick) I don't know which way to turn right now and I really hate that.

Thanks for your kind words, you are good at cheering me up!

Hello -

It's actually been about a week and a half since I last visited the boards. Since then I have been to our ped and a Homeopathic Doctor for my son Broden. The ped prescribed Zantac & Diflucan as his Thrush was back. We also had blood drawn for allergy tests - luckily he's not allergic to anything.

After spending like an hour and a half (amazing, I know!) talking with the Homeopath, she asked that we hold off on the traditional meds and try her remedy for 1 week. Well, I have to say, I have never seen my son this happy. He is a smiling active baby - I don't dare say normal, as I'm not sure what that looks like! It took a few days before I could see any changes, and she did warn us that the Thrush may get worse before it got better - but the crying, choking, spitting up, arching, etc. all slowly began to subside. It was pretty amazing! Now, when he cries, I usually know why - hungry, tired, etc.

The whole premis of the Homeopathic approach is just what you were told - all of the medications that have been put into my son's body have actually screwed up his natural ability to digest, regulate, heal, etc. She came up with a remedy for him, as well as had us give him what they call "Porbiotics" - which basically work to reverse the negative effects of antibiotics on the system.

Now, my son is only just now 3 months - so we saw a change pretty quickly. I'm not sure how old your kids are or how long they've been on meds or what type... so it may take a bit longer should you decide to go this route. We had Broden's follow-up visit on Tuesday, and she said to watch for signs of "slips" as they may happen, and we would have to up the dose of the remedy, but assured us that it would be short lived, and that the goal is to get him off the remedy as soon as possible. Once he gets through this, it will not return.

I know it may sound hard to believe - I was a sceptic of this type of medicine myself - mostly because I didn't really know that much about it. But the approach made sense to me - and if nothing else - it was just nice to have a Dr. take that much time and be that thorough with us about this whole issue.

Anyway - I hope that helps... please let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks!
- Deborah

Rachel, our current allergist had suggested that we see a "Nature Doctor," lol, as he called it (he's very old). I opted not to since I think there *is* a specific, undiagnosed problem with Noah. I will never rule anything out, though, when it comes to making Noah better.

What medications did she say were not good for Parker? I'm just curious.

Oh, and our allergist had us try Probiotics and we had no luck after 6 weeks, so I took Noah off of them. I have taken them myself and saw great results at first, but then, after a few weeks, I was back to normal. My allergist will swear that he has one patient that was completely cured by Probiotics, so it is definitely worth a try if you are open to the idea!

I'm glad he didn't test positive for allergies. I hope things start improving for little Parker!

Thanks Maggie, like I said I am taking the whole thing with a grain of salt, she basically said any medicine, esp the losec and zantac will screw with the tummy in the long run and cause other problems. I really don't know what to beleive- she is only a "natural" doctor, but they are so adament that something they are going to do will fix him so to speak, just really positive about fixing it.

Thanks for the probiotic acvice I have been giving them to Parker since jan and I have seen an improvement in his ear infections and BM issues but nothing reflux related.

Thanks Maggie

What is a homeopath? Are they like an allergist and tell you what you cannot eat etc... and then you have to give drops on the tounge?

If so, then my DH saw one as a little boy, but doesn't see him anymore. MIL wants us to take Sam to see him, but our insurance doesn't cover it.

I am pretty new here but I wanted to comment on this post. I started taking both of my boys to an ancient chinese medicine doctor. We are seeing amazing changes in them both. It is hard to believe unless you see it. He says the same thing about meds and how that mess up the body and it's natural abilities and energies. It is so strange when we go for a treatment. He doesn't even touch them. He just holds his hands around them and stuff. They get very calm and almost dazed looking. My son Liam 8mos was not sleeping good at all but after 1 visit and the home treatments he taught us, he slept all night for the first time on the 2nd day!! With Jake (who has Down Syndrome), he has reflux and low tone and has all of the normal developement issues, we are seeing great things. He is learning like crazy and making huge steps both physically and mentally at the same time. I am getting close to taking him off of all of this meds and doing treatments once a week and herbs just to see what happens. It all seems very wierd until you try it. One thing though, we see a doctor who practices true "ancient chinese medicine". Some of the newer chinese doctors have learned a more "westernized" version of chinese medicine. Their methods aren't quite as focused on the whole body but more of a symptom type approach (kind of like regular doctors).

PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks everyone.

Sarah a homeopath give treatments for specific things, they are all natural and balanced in some ways. To be honest I am not so sure.

Don't get me wrong I think that homeopathy has a really good potenitial to help people, and I hope it does something to help my sons reflux, but I am not so sure. He is not your typical reflux baby, he has a lot going on and is refluxing still as bad at 22 months. I think for him his treatment will be a lot of things combining.

But at the moment I am saying what the hey, this type of medicine here is not very expensive on the scale of things, I am even going to take my other son who is having ear problems- with this one I am sure he will have good results because i don't think there is any underlying problems.

I know I will not take him off his prescription meds right now, but will use this as well as for now. Our appointment is Friday so hopefully I will know a little more about it then.

Thanks again.

Grrr... Rach, I can not believe that she said that it may be behavirol. That is :bs:

I'm so, so sorry.
I have never heard of a homeopath, but I hope that if you decide to go that it works out.
I will say that the chiropractor that we go to has helped Jackson alot. But, I'm still too chicken to take him off of his meds. ***bok bok ** (chicken cluck) lol

I have been thinking that maybe reflux isn't caused by one specific thing, for instance jackson is good with the chiropractor, others say no way, some swear by natural medicine and others say med is the only way- so for us now it is just working out what is going to work the best, so we will see.

Em at first I thought well maybe he is just bad behaved, but I know Parker and when he is not sore he is a totally different boy, it always conincides so I know it isn't that, that isn't to say that he turns into a little pain cause of all the attention etc.

I take Anna to the chiropractor once per week. It seems to help, by the end of the week she is more fussy, and much better after her adjustment.
