Cady finally has two new words - cat (pronounced "tat") and fish (pronounced "ish")

She'll say them with prodding. The only words she says without prodding is "dada", "dogdog", and "woof"....all of her other words, I have to pry out of her, not that there are many. I know she can say them, because I've heard her...it's just that she doesn't use any, but three words on a regular basis. She's almost 18 months old. Shouldn't she be saying more? Does anyone have a speech chart or anything that shows how many words kids at her age should be saying and using?

Judy,
I can't recall the "guidelines" but I THINK that she's doing just fine for 17 months. Seems like i heard/read somewhere that 5 words is good for that age. If she has three on a reg. basis and a few others here and there I wouldn't be too concerned. I coudl be wrong but I'm just going by my memory.

I think that is fine too, just speaking from my own boys. It seems they hit some type of spurt and take off, and then may not for a while and then they take off again. I wouldn't worry yet!
