Well, I called Miami Children's Hospital audiology/speech pathology and they have a THREE MONTH waiting list. I guess maybe I should just get the appt, that way if I still need it in three months it will be there.
I emailed the ped askign her what her thoughts were. DH says he'll be reciting the alphabet by the time he gets in, LOL...i highly doubt that. He IS trying to say doggie today!
Anyway...i may call early intervention to see what that wait is like and how to go about that.

That is excellent that he's working on "doggie!" I bet its so cute! I guess I would go ahead and make the appointment, but I honestly think that Zac will be talking away by then, also. He's such a bright little boy, and now that he's working on one word, I bet he'll amaze you with many more!

Make the appointment. You can always cancel it if you don't need it anymore. Better than waiting until he's a few months older and then having to wait another three months to get in. Also call Early Intervention. You don't have anything to lose and may get to see someone sooner.

I was going to comment similarly, Shannon. I'm glad that Zac is able to get in so quickly, Sara.

Our insurance is making us go through early intervention...but if he doesn't start eating they might consider sending him for eval through the kids hospital. I called early intervention today though and they said to have them do it for sure since the kids hospitals usually have a long wait....as you've just experienced....so I think I would say to go with early intervention for now but make the appt since there is such a long wait...you never know what will happen by then.

Just a little fun info from my MIL,
She love to tell the story that my BIL didn't talk until he was 3 and he is now a professor of speech pathology at UWMich. And quite intelligent.
Ya just never know!!

Hi Sara

Ava was born 4/20 and doesn't say much
She says Ma Ma, Da Da, Hellloooooo, Cat, Bye, and a few other words....but not on a regular bases
A friend has a son with major delays across the board and she said that it isn't that important right now what words he is saying but if he is using mature sounds (I think that is what she called it)
La La she said was a tough one....and overall, if they aren't saying words are they making lots of different sounds

Keep us posted

Thanks
Yea he makes all kinds of sounds...just no words. I'm not "too" concerned at this time, just being proactive. This little guy has been behind in everything pretty much so far, but once he catches on, he takes off. I think it just is a matter of maturity but want to be certain that we catch something if there's anything to catch, KWIM?

Ditto to what Lesley said. Can I ask why you're booking him in???
