I think DD is over-eating. She is eating 7oz every 3 hours. She weighed 6lbs 5oz at birth and by her 2 month appt she was 12lbs 11oz. I'm worried that she is eating way too much to try and deal with the GER. She's on Enfamil AR, if that matters.

Is this every 3 hours around the clock, or every 3 hours during daytime hours?

Do you think she might be comfort feeding? Some GERDlings will literally suck down fluid all day because it soothes the esophagus. :-(

typically around the clock. She will go sometimes at night on a 4 hour stretch. She did however have two nights on straight 8 hours of sleep! That was heaven and short lived! LOL

Oh, isn't it wonderful when they give you a nice, long stretch like that?

For the first 14 months of her life, my dd was up every hour all night long. No kidding. She wanted to nurse and I now understand that it was soothing for her to do this. The milk calmed her burning esophagus. :-(

I know that in those early weeks, though, kids will often awaken every 3 or 4 hours to eat, so it very well *may* be normal. However, again, I am not an expert, so it is definitely worth mentioning to your doctor.

Mason started out comfort feeding. He was up to 32 ounces a day by 8 weeks. It was crazy. Honestly, unless she flies way out of the normal range on her weight chart I wouldn't worry about it and just let her eat when she wants. I would just speak to the ped and make sureit's okay. Mason is now 4 1/2 months and wearing 12 month old clothes. ;)

I have the opposite problem since my kids have to be forced to eat....but I would say you might want to check with your doc on this. How many ounces is that in a day ? If it's really around the clock then it sounds like you are talking way too many ounces. Bryna takes 20-24 oz a day (but I think that is low since she doesn't eat anything yet) but she has been doing that since 2 months...I've always heard once they get to 32 oz a day, you need to supplement with food.

Holy Cow Bonnie! Brayden is wearing 12 month at 20 months (18 mo too but they are big on him) and Bryna still fits in her 0-3 and 3-6 is loose (she's 7 monthhs)

Eliza -- Does your daughter ever take less? Does she seem more comfortable (reflux-wise) when she's eaten less? I guess that would be the only reason I'd limit her.

Of course, what do I know, my son was a non-eater, too.

I know. I keep comparing him to other babies when we go out and his size is just insane. The weight is 97th percentile, but so is his height so he's proportioned fine. It's a bit of a pain to be honest as things don;t fit him.

Like we bought the bumbo chair but he was too tall and kept flopping over. His feet hang way off the carseat yet he has to stay in that for a year??? lol I'd like to see how I'm supposed to cram him into it at 9 months. And speaking of carseat....I'm getting buff carrying him around!!! :D

Eliza:

I can't compare to my own dd, as she only eats about 4 ounces every 3 hours or so (but she was eating 4 ounces when she was like 2 weeks old, I was like dang!!!) But her cousin is one week younger than her and he eats 7 ounces about every 4 hours, I believe, and he is perfectly content.

It is possible that it could be comfort feeding. I sometimes think that is why my dd was eating 4 ounces when she was 2 weeks old and other babies I knew were eating like 2.

UPDATED: The doc said her problem is she is overeating. He said to only feed her 5oz at a time that she is probably screaming b/c she is distended and uncomforable from eating too much. I've given her two bottles (5oz each) so far and she's okay with not getting more! Maybe it's just as simple as I was feeding her too much!?!?__________________

Bonnie, Didn't worry about Mason...I thought the same thing about Zoee. She too at 41/2 months was wearing 9-12months. She was over the 100th for her weight. Except she is a little shorty as well. She now has maintained the same weight for a year. So I think that Mason should too. Now Scarlett is the opposite...3 months and will probably be wearing 0-3 for sometime.

Perhaps she was comfort feeding after all. If she's doing fine with the smaller amount of fluids, I'll bet that's what she was doing. Let us know if the screaming begins to improve at all on this new "diet"!

I hope things continue to go well with her new eating habits. Let us know how the day continues! Maybe she just needed some sucking action and that is why she continued to eat in the first place. My daughter NEEDS to have her pacifier after she eats, its like her dessert (ha ha)

yeah, I just stick her pacifier in her mouth after the bottle is done and she's content! I think she just wants something to suck on half the time

That's what I do Eliza...paci paci paci...When dd was your dd's age :) She did eat every 2-3 hours and had from 4-5 ounces at a time. I'm glad she's happy at a lower amount!

Don't be ashamed of the Pacifier..it is a gerdling's best friend!
