I'm looking for any advice. My Dd is 10 weeks old. She just started Zantac last week. She takes 1ml 2X a day and is 12lbs 11oz. She has been on Enfamil AR for about a month now. Sometimes after drinking a bottle she will just get super fussy and there is nothing we can do for her. She throws a big fit and will cry for hours. So I'm wondering if this is from the formula. I wonder if she is possibly allergic to the milk proteins. I bought a can of the Enfamil Nutramigen, but haven't used it yet. I just dont' know what to do, I don't know if it's a formula issue or a reflux issue. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!!!
I wanted to add that she is drinking 7oz every 3 hours! Which seems like a ton

Hi there!! First of all let me reassure you that the Zantac can take at least two weeks to start helping at all. I dont think it's a good idea to start switching formulas and other things right now or you wont have any idea WHAT is actually making things worse or better. You have to take this slow in the beginning... trust me I KNOW, Oh do I KNOW, how frustrating this is and annoying that it seems there is nothing you can do to help your child!
Let me ask you this... when she has a rough time (reflux flare) have you tried giving her Maalox or Mylanta? That was such a huge huge help for us because even though my daughters meds and everything were working she STILL had breakthrough (more in the beginning). Most Dr's will have you give 2-3mL up to 4 times per day.
For now... let the med settle in and if in another week or so she is still having more bad time than good, talk to the Dr about switching formulas. You really gotta give things time to start working!! :)
Let me also mention that there are certain times in the first few months where things can seemingly get worse for a few days or a week or whatever... whether it be the kids growing or their shots or whatever... If your little girl is starting to get more active that too can bring on reflux.
I hope this helped and I wish you luck... please let us know if you have any other questions!! :)
P.S. Wow your daughter is a GREAT drinker! Mine is a year old today and the most she takes is about 6!!! And thats rare! :)

thanks for the reply. I'm just at my wits end. She also sleeps quite a bit, but maybe that is due to the fact that she was a preemie.
Hi Eliza:
My daughter is 11 weeks old and started her reflux meds about a month ago. I ended switching my dd's formula as well, but I waited for about three weeks after I started before I did it.
She was still spitting up a LOT (but wasn't in pain anymore) after the meds started work so the only real reason I swtiched to a gentiler formula is to help with the puke episodes. Alimentum has cut down on the puke, but she does still spit up.
(Alimentum which is about the same as what you are wanting to switch to).
I would give the meds some time to work before switching formulas, like mentioned.
Hope this helps!!
Kelly
PS - my dd is only drinking about 4 ounces (if that) every 3 hours!!
