Hi, I have a question for those of you that use the Playtex nursers. I recently bought a couple of these bottles by suggestion of someone else on the forum to help with my daughters gas and reflux pain. So far, so good. She been eating her normal amount again which I'm guessing she was getting to much air from her other bottle and it was filling her up. Anyway, I just have a couple of questions. I know there was some talk about how some find it hard to get 8 ounces in these bottles so they premix, etc. But I was wondering what do you do when you are out and about?? I usually fill my bottles with water and then mix when she is ready to eat. It seems like that might be tough when she starts to eat 8 ounces (she is no where near that right now). I was just wondering what everyone else's technique might be for that.

Also, I've been pushing the air out before I give the bottle to my dd, if I don't always push the air out, will the bottle still have the same affect or will she be sucking in all the air?

Thanks!!

First time mommy to baby with reflux

Kelly, I use to put hte formula in before (doing that it would be 8 oz that i was doing then just put the water in when Zoee wanted it. Just put in the water to 8ozs and shake or stir it. Then the bottle was ready. There is one suggestion that may work for you. Good Luck!

I either put the fprmula in before going out or I put the water in a small jug to stir up prior.

I can't help you w/forumla tips as I never used it...but as far as the air goes...if you dont push it out before giving it she will suck it all in.

I sometimes mixed the bottles enroute, especially if we were away on holidays, but I'd pre-mix them at home (often as early as the night before) if I was just going to be out and about for the day. I carried a little cooler with ice packs. Yes, about sucking in all of the air if you don't take it out first.

***wondering when or if we'll ever take 8 ounces**** :( She's still doing only 6 ounces right now in the nursers. We take a water bottle and formula in a container when we're out and about. Good question though...is it possible to shake 8 ounces in the bottle?

ladies - if you do powder first then water are you doing 4 full scoops? i think that would be too much powder, considering it's 1 scoop per 2 ounces water. are ya following me on this one? powder does take up about an ounce of room...i think ??? so maybe 3 1/2 scoops of powder first???

So true, Ginette! I found that I could only put 6 oz. of water maximum in those bottles, and therefore only 3 scoops.

When Lauren was still on formula and taking 8 oz., I'd fill the bottle with 7 oz. of water and then add enough formula for 7 oz. and mix. When finished, it gave me an 8 oz. bottle.

Perfecto Jeanette..I'm sure i would get the math right if I did the "formula" right :) Nice to know for when we do need 8 ounces.

So back to Kelly's question - Do you mix 8 ounces in a seperate container (I would switch bottle if I had to do this) or stick 3 scoops formula...toped off with water and shake like h.e. double hockey sticks? It sure is a tight fit in these bottles... One day I was curious if the ounce lines were even accurate because it looked impossible to me....so I measured 8 ounces water in an old Dr. Brown's bottle, then poured it into the Playtex Nurser and it was filled to the rim!! Just as the bottle says.

This is obviously something we could figure out on our own, but it's nice to hear your experience. As for I/we :) LOVE these bottles...heaven sent! *******the sound of just one teeny burp instead of 10 mixed with spitup and mommy's needing a chiropractor from "holding upright"and patting******

Sorry, again no formula experience but those 8 oz. nursers DO fit 8 oz. I'm confused LOL

Yes Sara, they fit 8 oz. of WATER, and many parents choose to mix the formula in the bottles rather than mixing it in a bowl or pot, and pouring it in. It's just much simpler to shake it all up in the bottle, rather than trying to get it to blend well in a pot.

:dizzy:
my head hurts now from water to scoop equations. could you fit 3 1/2 scoops of formula in there? was your formula 1sc -2oz?

***laughing at my neurotic bottle process these days***** I've found that she spits up more when I do...5 1/2 ounces of water...So I take her down to 5 when she's spitting up too much...then when she's doing better I bring it up a little to 5.25 ounces...and I sit there for a minute trying to recalculate exactly how much formula that is....uhhhhhh:scratch: E=MC2? 2.75! YES...i did it! again.....:(

I'm just stahling.....dreading dishes, shower, floors, bathrooms...ird is a bit more fun than shores.

LOL...Are you guys just trying to keep our heads spinning in order to keep away from those chores? ;) :smt043

I hear you on the chores. When my dd falls asleep, I think, "Ok, time for a shower and dishes, etc." But then I just want to log on "for one quick second".....next thing I know dd is awake. Sometimes dh will come home from work and I haven't even showered yet...he's like, "what have you been doing all day". Its great that I've found this website for all my reflux questions, etc. But now I'd rather be here when dd is sleeping than doing something around the house. Ok, OI have to get off (for now), dd has a dr appt for her congestion.

I feel your pain. I need some gum because I haven't brushed my teeth yet! eeew. There should be a catergory for IRD addicts who need support in time management! good lord
