Hi, I keep reading that a lot of reflux issues can be aggrevated by gas. I was wondering what bottle do you all use that you have found success with? Before we figure out my dd had reflux, we switched her bottle from VentAire to Avent. She still seems to be gassy and having reflux problems, so I'm wondering if a bottle switch migth be helpful. I thinking about the Playtex with the drop in liners. At least I know I would be able to push all the air out???

Thanks,

We had always used the Playtex Premium Nurser system bottles. I suppose they were more for breastfed babies...i would give him those w/my expressed milk when needed...he STILL drinks juice/water out of those on occassion and loves them. They have really wide base nipples and you can squeeze the air out of the drop-in bags.

Connor was a very gassy baby and I swear I bought every bottle out there. The one I found the best success with are the Dr. Browns. We use the wide neck one's. Also we burped him every 1/2 oz to an oz and lots of mylicon drops.

I use the Avent, Playtex insulator and Ventair with Owen and they seem fine for him. A lot of people are using the Dr.Browns and swear on them.

Do you use the silicone or latex nipple?? I was told to try the latex, but I'm not sure what the difference is?? We just tried the nursers for my dd last feeding (w/ latex nipples), it seemed to go well and she actually wanted more (she has been eating less lately).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Thanks.

We use the Dr Browns bottles and they have been a life saver. I could tell a BIG difference between them and the Avent!

Kelly,
We've always used the silicone nipples. However, there has been recent discussion around here that others' GERDlings did better w/the latex. We had no issues w/the silicone here though.

Cady had so much trouble latching onto the wide-based nipples (Avent, Playtex Nursers, and Playtex Ventaire), so out of desperation I tried a regular Dr. Brown's and she latched on to that beautifully. So, we've been using the Dr. Brown's regular nipple bottles since she was 4 months old. She's going on 18 months and still uses them. They really were a life-saver.

I always used Avent bottles, and Catherine never progressed beyond the 0-3mo nipple size. We never had a problem with them.

Avent was a nightmare for us...we switched right to Dr Brown's and he has been great on them since! :)

I think all babies are different/ We were originally on Dr.Browns. We switched to Playtex Nursers with Latex nipples and it made a HUGE difference.

I say, try one of each major bottle before you commit to one. Test out silicone and Latex. Latex is more rubbery so Mason latched super well with it. But they don't last as long.

KC uses the platex premium nursers with silicone nipples. I find tha using the othe bottles aggravate his reflux even more.

We switched from the Nursers to wideneck Dr. Brown's, and it made a huge difference. For Noah, though, I think it had to do with his aversion and association with the Nursers. However, I have tried to switch him back to the Nursers, and he cannot even latch on to those anymore. I also tried Avents at one time, and Noah didn't do well with them, so they only lasted a few hours before we realized they weren't for him.

Its all about trying the options! As you see in this thread, every baby has their preference. I don't think there is a better bottle, but its just a matter of finding which one works best for your child. Good luck!

We use the Dr. Brown wide neck bottles. They have made a huge difference. James used to have a poor latch-on with the Evenflo bottles/nipples and would leak formula out the sides of his mouth. The Dr. Brown's have been a lifesaver for us. I wish I had known about them sooner... his feeding team recommended them to us when he was 10 months old.
