Connor loves to drink water out of his sippy cup and I'm thinking about trying one bottle of formula a day in it to see how he does. My question is, do you still thicken once they transition to a sippy? Also, I worry because he chokes on the water because the flow is so fast so I'm afraid he'll drink the formula too quickly and will puke.

K has been on only sippy cups since she was 9 months I think and she has been getting her formula from them. Yes, we thickened too... until about a month ago when we stopped thickening altogether. Just want to mention that we used the Nuby ones because the ones with the vents seemed not to work as well with the thickened formula!

Hope that helps! :)

If he wants the cup, GO FOR IT! :)

The sippy cups that I have for Trey have a fast/slow side. You just have to flip it over for whatever side you want. I don't know how the thickened formula would work in those though. He has the nuby ones that don't have the soft spout.

Bryna always choked with water in a bottle or any formula that wasn't thickened no matter what flow nipple I used. However, my mom gave her Brayden's sippy cup to suck on when she was barely 5 months old and she took to it right away. So, she used the hard gerber sippy cups that are supposed to be for 12 months and older. I think that since they are not the "first sippy's" the flow isn't as fast unless you suck harder...so that is why she doesn't choke on the water.

I just bought a sippy per peds suggestion to get her framiliar with it..play with it with a little water inside. I bought Playtex. It has rubber plugs inside that you can manipulate to change the flow to like 4 different flows. I think I may have done about 6 sessions with her? At first she choked..but tonight when I gave it to her (to have a couple sips after eating) She just coughed a little once but then really got the hang of it finally. I've done all the different flows with her so she could learn how to close the back of her throat in case it's coming out fast. She's doing pretty good.

Try him out with water first and when he's not hungry...I put it on fast flow right away and she thought it was funny....then started sucking, choking etc..but still wanted more..within that sitting I'd slow it down to make her suck hard..and she would. Just play with it. Good luck to ya!
