Noah's allergist told us that Peptamen and Alimentum had the same number of cals. I took his word for it, but then today, I decided to check to see for myself.

Sure enough, Peptamen Junior is 250 cals/250 mL, and Alimentum is only 100 cals/148 mL.

Could Noah be drinking less because it is more filling?

That would make total sense. I'm surprised that your doctor didn't check his facts before telling you that. Wait a minute...No I'm not.

Did he have mucusy stools before the peptamen? Just curious. It may just not agree with him. Or it could be the cals, totally.

Interesting. I've read that kids usually top out at 1000 calories per day until they're age 3 (I think). How many oz. per day is he drinking?

I think that could definitely cause him to eat less. Peptamin Jr has 30 cals/ oz and formula has 20cals/oz. I think the more calories per ounce also makes it alittle harder to digest so it might digest slower

Hmm Maggie that would make sense if it has more cals. Is he having mucousy stools?? I wonder with all of his intolerances if he would do better on Neocate 1+, just a thought. I know if I were to quit breastfeeding that is what his GI said we would put Jackson on.

Noah is drinking about 20 ounces per day the last few days. That is up from 17. His BM's have been mucousy before this, but they always seem to happen after a food challenge.

Remember, he is actually pooping on his own with the Peptamen. With the Alimentum, he pooped hard, dry rocks without Miralax.

Maybe when he reacts to foods it inflames his intestens and thats why he has mucous in his stool after the food trial. :dontknow:

I've suspected that it was directly related to foods, but its so hard to tell when no one is doing anything for him at the moment. The bm sample that I sent last week hasn't even been tested, yet!

Maggie...I just wanted to say I was wrong about the calories. Toddlers should have anywhere from 1000 to 1400 until age 2, depending on their size and how much they'll eat. From age 2-3 they should have 1400 calories. It was on a phamplet about nutrition from my ped. Sorry!

Ugh gotta love when they take their sweet time for things, while he is suffering through food trials. Maybe a call is nessacerray to get things moving.
