Tyler has had his g-tube for 1 1/2 weeks now. He is not sleeping well
at night nor his he taking long naps. He is up every 2-3 hours. My ?
is is this normal? Does he just need to get use to having something in
his stomach all the time? He left the hospital on a continous feed
30cc's per hour. I have since started bottle feeds and seems to do ok
with them, still about the same amount he was before the tube
placement. I do remember the two weeks we did the ng tube feedings he
was up a lot too. I am just getting tired as I can't nap when he does
because we have 3 older kids. We just moved so we don't know anyone so
getting a sitter is out of the ?. He is still on 30 cc's per hour and
I have him on it most of the day and do bottles as he wants them.
Thanks for any info you can give me.

Hugs~

HI Amy!!!!:hello2:

I'm no tube feeding expert as you know, but I always wondered how sleep would be with a continuos feed, and always wondered how the kids did with it.
I know Eric has always slept better on empty, and I think he would have problems with food going in all night.
It just makes sense that he would have some problems with adjusting to more food than what he's used too.
I know when Eric decides to eat really well his reflux really goes to town.

Glad to hear he is still somewhat interested in taking in some calories orally. That's GREAT! I know you were worried about it.

(((BIG HUG)))
I hope the girls here who know more about this, give you some more insight

We didn't have any sleep problems when Daniel got his G tube, but he doesn't get continuous feeds. We give him eight ounces at bedtime, but then we disconnect him and he sleeps fine.

When do you give Tyler's medicine? Can you up the dose at bedtime to counteract the overnight feeds while lying horizontal?

Thanks Minnie yes I am glad that he is still wanting to take something by mouth:-)

As for Tyler's med's acording to the GI dr he should be off all med's at this point but after two days at home and what I think is reflux, same systoms as before just not as much, I started him back on. He is on prevaicd 15 MG and gets 1/2 tablet in am and 3/4 tablet in pm, so I am giving him the higher dose at night. I know he goes back to the surgeon Wed and I will ask than about his sleeping. Also he goes to the GI Dr next week and will also ask her about it too. I just hope she doesn't want me to stop the med's because he is doing better not screaming and arching his back now that he has been on his med's for almost a week. I also have his bed elavated and he is staying at that end for the most part ;-)
