My son has been wheezing ever since he had RSV at 7 months. His pediatrician seems to think his wheezing is from the reflux. I was wondering if anyone noticed a difference in your child's wheezing after beginning treatment for the reflux. If so, when did you notice a difference?

Despite reflux treatments, both my kids were wheezing and had a chronic cough (especially my daughter) until we figured out they were MSPI last month. The change was most dramatic with Bryna since she only takes formula...she stopped wheezing within 24 hours of switching to Alimentum and the coughing stopped within days. Brayden took a little longer probably because I wasn't so great at figuring out what foods had milk and soy in them....I know that doesn't really answer your original question. But I would suggest looking into food allergies if the reflux meds don't help. My GI said that food allergies may be causing the reflux (but we've been off milk/soy for a month now and the reflux is still there, although not as bad)

Reflux treatment helps my sons breathing a little bit by making the refluxed food less acidic, but even with the meds they still reflux.
I think Eric's breathing has improved dramatically since he was a newbee, it was a slow process, but he's much better now even though he's not completely well.
During and after an illness his breathing regresses back to terrible. I'm sure RSV played a part in your sons breathing. The reflux is just slowing the healing down, and making things worse.

Reflux meds help my sons congestion due to reflux, but the coughing at night is asthma related, this was worked out with the pH probe test. So it can definately be related.

Developing asthma is very common after having a case of RSV. Asthma is also very common if you have reflux. I would say that both played a part and that is what has been causing the wheezing. Like a pp said...food allergies can cause it too although my pedi said they don't play a huge role.

Our son alwasy wheezed until he had the fundoplication surgery.
Edited to say: Not that I recommend the surgery, because I don't!

It took being treated for both reflux and asthma for my 21 month old twins to get their wheezing under control.
