Hi!
Last night we switched our son from Gerber Rice (b/c I learned it contains Soy) to Beechnut.
It seems to me that it takes a lot more Beechnut rice to get the same consistency for thickening as the Gerber.
Has anyone else noticed this?
If so, what do you use?
For Gerber, we were using 1 rounded Tablespoon/oz.

Hi... we use mainly beechnut because they do not have soy in their cereal. A lot of parents here use it as well because a lot of the gerdlings have Milk and Soy issues.

I hadnt noticed the consistancy thing... I've been using Gerber for awhile now because they sell the bigger box and my daughter is bigger - though we stopped thickening as well about a month ago now.

I wish you luck... I believe Earths Best may be soy free too... you could check. If you get that near you, you could see if thats different with the consistancy.

I tried both Gerber and Del Monte, but didn't like the texture and the ingredients. And, they didn't seem to blend as well in his bottles. My son is not soy sensitive though.

I've always used Earth's Best Organic Brown Rice Cereal. My SIL did a bunch of research and learned that too much refined white rice can increase their glycemic load too early. My Ped wasn't so sure but I decided that it was a good idea to watch out for that so we have always used Brown Rice.

Sorry about that...has to do with your insulin level...it's esp. of concern for those with diabetes issues.

I never noticed the consistency difference, but I only used Gerber for a week or two, I think, before Noah was put on a milk and soy free diet.

We also use Earth's Best Rice and Oatmeal Cereals. Our Babies R Us carries it, so if you have one, I would check there. It's around 1.89/box. At our local grocery store it is 3.59/box. A big difference in price!

I have never used Gerber cereals and have exclusively been using Beechnut cereals since we've started him on them so I can't tell you what the difference would be in my opinion. :oops:
