Hey guys. I have a question. KC has to go for a few more tests. One is a long bone x-ray and the other is a fecal elastase test. Has anyone had these tests done? I really need to know what they are for. I'm taking him to see his ped tomorrow to see what we have to do but I need someone who has already had them done to help me with it. The most I do know is that they work in conjunction with the cystic fibroses test(which what he also has to have done. I'm familiar with that test we have already had that one done before. His GI dr wants all these tests done. So if anyone has any insight on these tests please let me know. I would really appreciate it. Thanks again Lauren

I am at work right now but I am familiar with the fecal elastase test and have info on my computer at home. no help with the bone test though.

I am very curious as to why they are repeating the CF test though. It is an ABSOLUTE test and 100% accurate for babies a few days old to any age at all. It just does not make sense why they would redo it to me. Did they tell you why?

Literally do not sweat the sweat test. If you have had it done already then it is negative. It is a formality for most of us to go through this with our kids when they do not have a clue. If your child has chronic bowel issues then I am guessing that is why the stool tests are being done. My guy is undergoing celiac testing complete with upper and lower scopes in September and bloodwork now.

Good luck with the upcoming tests, Lauren! I just have experience with the CF one, and like Leigh, I wonder why they're re-testing.

Both of my kid have had major failure to thrive issues, so we've been through about every test you can name. Looks like you need info on the bone X-RAy. For my daughter they did thid to check her bone age. They were trying to determine if she had growth hormone or thyroid issues. It wasn't a big deal at all compared to the bloodwork!

Umm well CF is tested on every baby when they are a couple of days old in Australia, so I was taken aback when the Dr said we may need to get one done. She said they are not always 100%, I don't know why, she said also it is very rare for you to have it after testing (negative) but there is a possibility, probably not what you want to hear, I haven't heard of the other tests though- good luck.

Hello,
It is usually uncommon to re-do the CF test however my son did have to sweat tests performed along with a blood test that they sent to a lab in San Deigo, CA to check for the mutation cells of CF in his blood. My son had a bone xray done of his leg and they did it to look for bone density, bone age (that they used his thumb I believe) and they also were checking for something else but I can't remember I want to say it was for inflamation.
