Okay...I need to know what sort of schedules you guys feed solids on. Emily, you posted yours for me and now I can't find it. :(

I can't seem to figure out how to do this with Mason.

Maybe you guys can just make suggestions for me because as of right it's like nap, eat, nap, eat, lol.

He drinks 32 ounces of formula. He is eating 3 TBSP of cereal 3 times per day (he'd eat more if I let him but I want to hold him back a little longer till he at least hits that 4 month mark and make sure he still gets his formula). He generally wakes up about 7:30 am and goes to bed about 7:30 pm and sleeps through (please don't kill me :P) He takes a 30 minute nap every 2 hours and if I really luck out I might get a 1-2 hour nap in about every 2-3 days.

Here is sort of how today went....

8:00am he woke up (he woke up late and I was taking the kids to school as DH went to work late. Normally I wake Mason up by 7:30 if he is not up)

8:30am he finished 8 ounce bottle
9:30 napped for 30 minutes
10:00 gave Prevacid dose
10:30 gave 3 tbsp of cereal and 2 oz formula
12:30pm finished 8 ounces of formula
2:30 gave 3 TBSP cereal and 3 ounces formula
4:00 finished 6.5 ounces of formula
5:30 gave 3 TBSP cereal and 2 ounces formula
7:30 finished 7 ounces formula then crashed

As you can see, I think he is eating way too often. We rarely had any playtime. He USED to go 4 hour stretches in between feeds but then out of no where started getting super hungry about every 1 1/2 to 2 hours which was why I started solids. Now it feels like all I do is feed him, lol.

I'm wondering if I should give the cereal WITH his formula (which I wonder if even HE can stomach all that) and see if he can handel 3-4 hour gaps again.

I dunno how to feed him solids 3 times a day and still manage to get his bottles in there a long side of naps and playtime.

Help!! lol

This has been so tough for us. James is now 13 months old and still eats every two hours. I feel like I have a newborn at times... it seems like all I do is feed him. Our days goes pretty much like this...

6:30 a.m. (or so) 7 ounce bottle
8:30 a.m. 3-5 ounces of jar food thickened with oatmeal
10:30 a.m. 7 ounce bottle
11:15-11:30 a.m. nap
1:30 p.m. (or so) 3-5 ounces of jar food thickened with oatmeal
3:15 p.m. 7 ounce bottle
5:15 p.m. 3-5 ounces of jar food thickened with oatmeal
7:00 p.m. 7 ounce bottle
7:30 bed

Sometimes he has a few pieces of cereal or puffed stars with his meal... mainly depends on how he is feeling. The dietician with his feeding team said back in February that I have to stop his grazing (as she called it because he appears to eat all day long), but I just can't find anything else that works with him. Right now our focus is just keeping him in the routine of sitting down at the table three times a day. Really until the reflux issues are under control, I just don't see how to change it. I have tried feeding him his food first thing in the morning, but he won't eat any more quatity wise and just wants his bottle that much sooner after he eats. For me, right now, our main concern is to make sure he gets formula because he actually lost a little weight in the last month... if he eats food, great. If not, I try not to stress as long as he is taking his bottles.

Hope this helps... you aren't alone.

LOL ty. Looks like I'm not the only one then. :P Umm....isn't it wierd they starte ating more frequently as they get older? haha I'd expect it the other way around.

However, Mason, while he does get refluxy, is well under control now so he has no eating issues....other than the fact that he just likes food. At the moment it is no big deal, I guess I am just wondering how to gear him towards normal eating as he gets bigger.

The only thing that really throws it off is the prevacid dose as I try to keep it 2 hours after his first bottle and 30 minutes before another feed. I would gladly give it before his first bottle, but after 12 hours of sleeping that baby is wanting nothing but a bottle in his mouth immediately, lol. As soon as I hear him stir I am scrambling in the kitchen trying to get it ready before he starts wailing. I call it my early morning scramble.

I think you are doing fine with it, Bonnie. He's young still to worry about a solids schedule. I'm still working on it and some days are better than others. Just follow his cues and take it from there.

LOL about the morning scramble! I give J his Prevacid first thing, then change his diaper, read a book - if I'm lucky I can waste 20min doing that, which seems to be good enough!

Here is our solid schedule again

6ish up and Prevacid
630 bottle
730 solid
8 nap
1030 bottle
1130 solid
noon nap
230 bottle
445 solid (I try to do that one earlier than 5 so that I can do his prevacid at 6 LOL)
6 Prevacid
630 bottle
7 bed
10 bottle

Hope that helped a bit. It is so hard in the beginning.

Bonnie...it sounds to me like your doing fine.

Just let him lead, if he is hungry then feed him:)

Thanks all. Wow, I guess it is normal. I didn't expect that feedings got MORE frequent, lol. I'll try giving him his food with his bottles today and then just offer formula in between based on hunger cues and see how he goes. Otherwise, I guess we just won;t go out anytime soon, rofl.
