So I have noticed that when Lucas has Karo syrup in his formula to help with the constipation he tends to drink more from his bottle. This morning I got him to drink an ounce but he hasn't done that since. I can't put the karo syrup in each bottle because that would be a whole another problem...LOL...any suggestions?

Does anyone "sweeten" their formula or have methods to get the baby to drink more?

We have literally tried all of the different formulas out there...we are back to Enfamil AR which prethickened with rice starch.

I am my wits end...it is taking a 1/2 hr just to try to get him to drink anywhere from 5cc to 1/2 an ounce. Then he is NG tube fed the remainder (total 3 ounces) which takes an 1 1/2 hr because we are slowing increasing his rate so he doesn't throw up.

Can you try adding Carnation Instant Breakfast for flavoring?

Or Nesquick?

I thought about that but didn't know if it was okay for a 13 week old...and how much would be the next question.

Any ideas???

If I remember correctly, EnfamilAR is a milk based formula?

I ask because that CIB has lactose and non fat milk in the ingredients.

I have to use a whole package to 8 ounce sippy with Andrew numerous times a day....

But for a 13 week old, you may want to run it by the ped first, but I would think a teaspoon per bottle would be enough to flavor it.

Evan couldn't take more than 2 oz. at a time until after his second birthday, and by then he was being treated for DGE. Is it possible that you're dealing with DGE on top of the reflux?

You don't think its the nipple do you? When we used Enfamil AR I had to switch to Y cut nipples. I know it says you can use a regular nipple with it - but it was too thick for Bryna and she didn't want to bother trying to suck so hard to drink it so she just wouldn't do it. I wonder if the syrup helps to keep the nipple from getting clogged cuz it makes it more "slippery" if you know what I mean... Even now - we are back to a regular nipple because she has a really strong suck and since she is older she chokes on the y-cuts...but sometimes the rice clogs her nipple...she doesn't complain....she continues to "suck" on the bottle like she would a pacifier but she isn't getting any milk. I actually have to listen for the sucking to make sure its not clogged. Before I figured out that this was happening I thought she just didn't want to eat because she would suck for a long time before complaining and refusing to eat anymore...

Having said that though - I would look into the DGE thing. When Bryna is off Reglan she will only take like 6-10 oz a day if I push her. When she has the reglan I can get up to 24 oz into her....

Lucas has been checked for DGE and the Drs. said he actually empties out pretty quickly. We are actually having another milk scan done this week for other reasons but I'll be sure to double check.

The nipple we are using are the Y-cut ones. Sometimes he wants to drink and sometimes he doesn't want to.

I guess I am just wishing that there is a "magic" solution like adding something to his formula that would make it more tasty to him.

On top of all of this my older one has been home with strep throat and scarlet fever!!! Ladies, I am having one of those days and pray that my DH is not late tonite or else I might just go looney here!!!:razzing:

Oh no! Evan had the strep throat, tonsilitis, Scarlet Fever thing last year. Not a fun combo. I hope that your day and week improve quickly!
