View Full Version : Anyone feed their kiddo's yogurt?
Miori 05-01-2006, 04:33 PM My mom always gave me yogurt - back the day, she even made it herself! So, I got some of the Yo Baby today for Joshua. I've read that yogurt is good for them b/c of all the active cultures, and doesn't usually cause an issue for lactose sensitive kiddos. Just curious...
AndrewsMommy 05-01-2006, 04:45 PM Andrew didn't care to much for the yo baby!
But he will eat the kind I eat...and likes the gogurt ones:)
Becky in NM 05-01-2006, 04:50 PM Since Daniel refused to drink anything starting at ten months, I fed him a TON of yobaby for the calories and the calcium. (Sigh. Those were the good old days when I could make him eat.)
I found yobaby was pretty expensive at our regular grocery store but much less at Whole Foods and Walmart.

Strange that it was less at Whole Foods? That place is usually so marked up!
I did look for it at Wallie-World but they were out, so clearly other mom's have figured it out too!
Thanks!!
AndrewsMommy 05-01-2006, 04:56 PM It was about 4 bucks for a pack at krogers here!
Not that far off from the yogurt Zachary uses for his meds!!(Can't swallow a pill from all the scar tissue he has around his airway from RSV)
I break open the capsule and mix it in yogurt every morning!
OwensMom 05-01-2006, 05:32 PM Jonathan was eating yogurt at that age and really enjoyed it.
Owen is MSPI so he can't have it. I read that about the yogurt and lactose sensitivity too. I would try and see if he tolerates it. Good luck and I hope he likes it.
ZacsMom 05-01-2006, 05:34 PM Zac didn't like yogurt until recently. We were given the go for yogurt around 9 months but she said no more than 3 times a week for some reason. :dontknow: Now he enjoys yogurt.
Noah's Mom 05-01-2006, 05:59 PM Noah was addicted to Yo Baby around 7-8 months when he wouldn't eat or drink anything else. Unfortunately, it was causing problems that we did not realize and I had to take him off of it. I have since tried it with him again and he reacted TERRIBLY. So, no more yogurt for Noah indefinitely. But yes, Miori, its a great idea if he can have it!
CadysMommy 05-01-2006, 06:19 PM I gave Cady yogurt back before we knew she was allergic to milk. Her allergy didn't appear until we introduced a lot of cow's milk. Anyway, she loved it.
Miori 05-03-2006, 01:13 PM I asked the Ped about yogurt at his visit yesterday, and she thought it was a great idea. She wants us to try other dairy products like cottage cheese and cheese too - she said they have a low enough amount of lactose so it shouldn't be a big issue, but we'll have to see how he reacts to it!
So, this morning we tried the YoBaby and he inhaled it! :)
Emily M 05-03-2006, 01:20 PM My girls loved the yo baby, but now I can't find it for Jackson :(
I gave him just fruit yogurt the other day (I was eating it and he was watching w/wide eyes) LOL and he LOVED it, so I don't think there is any harm!
BraydenandBrynasMom 05-03-2006, 01:26 PM Brayden used to be totally addicted to yobaby but now he wont eat it anymore...now one of the only things he will eat is the cottage cheese doublers. He can't tolerate milk though - but for whatever reason the dairy doesn't bother him in these foods.

You can't find it???? That's crazy! It is EVERYWHERE here - all the grocery stores, Super Walmart, Super Target, Whole Foods, Wild Oats...all over the place!
I'm glad he like the regular yogurt...I'd try to find a more natural brand that has low sugar and sodium, if I couldn't get the YoBaby, but that's just me and my hippie upbringing! :)
Baby James 05-03-2006, 01:38 PM I did try the YoBaby yogurt with James a couple of months ago and he just loved it. Unfortunately, we realized the second day of feeding it to him that he could not tolerate it. He would scream for hours afterwards. So I called around to a few stores and found soy yogurt and it has turned out to be a great substitute for him. The bad thing is I have to drive across town to get it for him... but if eats it, then that is all that matters.
Miori 05-03-2006, 01:45 PM Good to know that the soy yogurt was an alternative! I saw SoyBaby at the store too - I'm crossing my fingers that he can tolerate the regular stuff! :)
CadysMommy 05-03-2006, 08:13 PM You can always try Dannon Activa. Same good stuff as YoBaby and a lot less expensive. The ped. suggested this stuff instead of YoBaby back before we knew she was allergic to milk.
Noah's Mom 05-03-2006, 08:21 PM I'm so happy he liked his YoBaby! Give him a few bites for Noah, okay? I only gave him the YoBaby, because if you compare ingredients, there are about 1/2 as many in the YoBaby as there are in adult yogurts. I always liked the idea of as few different ingredients as possible.
EmmasMommy 05-03-2006, 08:46 PM I'm so glad to hear he loves it! I'm so jealous. Emma loves YoBaby, but can't have it. :(
Like Maggie said, have Joshua eat a few bites for Emma!
sarahh 05-03-2006, 09:18 PM My boys have yoghurt (1 pottle each) for lunch every day. I also often mix yoghurt and banana for their pudding at night. We are so lucky the boys tolerate it.. it's such an easy lunch to give!

I'm of the same philosophy...I even prefer to buy the organic puree's.
You betcha - the next carton will be for Noah, and the next after that will be for Emma! :)

LOL about hippie upbringing!
No, I can not find it. Yet, there is only one store where I can find Beech nut products and it is 30 min. away! ugh!
