Did any of you have problems with your kiddos gagging even on stage one food? Connor was doing ok with at least a couple of stage one jars (sweet potatoes and peaches) Now he's even gagging on those. I don't think it's a pain thing as much as a texture thing? Even if I put the smallest amount on his spoon he gags. It's so frustrating! This kid has got to eat something! I just had to reduce his formula again back down to 4oz instead of 5 because he was spitting up like crazy.

Has he tried any finger foods? I know he can't do Oats so Cheerio's are out..but I'm sure you could find some rice puffs or something.
Maybe it is that the puree is too smooth? Sounds wierd *takes a shot in the dark*

I've tried some table foods before and as soon as they hit his tongue he wants nothing to do with them. It's weird because he'll put everything else in his mouth he finds but not food. He likes to eat so it's not that. I just can't figure it out.

Maybe try to thicken it up with some rice cereal, I know Jayden eats it much better when it's really thick. ???

I'm stumped!!
Joshua hated finger foods up until a few days ago...now he is all over those puffs! Too bad the oats are backing him up....
With the MSPI, can he have yogurt? Like that YoBaby stuff? I'm gonna ask the Ped about that for Joshua when I see her next week, with his lactose issue and all.

Thanks Debbie but the thicker it is the worse he gags!

Is it the timing of the feeding? You said before that he has his solids after the bottle, right? Maybe he is still too full from his bottle?
Here is what I do:
Haven't gotten the breaksfast thing figured out so ignore that one...lol
He has a bottle when he first gets up, about 7a.m.
Then, about 10:00, I'll do some solids. 45min-1hr later, he'll want his bottle.
Mid-afternoon, another bottle.
He has solids with us at dinner time, about 6pm. Then a bottle after his bath, before bed.
Just a thought.....hth

I usually have been giving him his solids about 1 hour after his bottle. Timing is so hard because he usually goes down for a nap about an hour and a half after his bottle so It doesn't give me much time for solids. Then when he wakes up it's almost time for a bottle again.

That is tough....you might try sneaking in the solids before a bottle, maybe after his nap? Couldn't hurt to try, I guess.
This is funny...clearly only you and I are on-line, furiously posting back and forth! :)

Evan was a major (sensory) gagger too. The thicker things were the more he gagged. He still can't handle things that are too thick, and I have to cut everything really small in order for him to be able to eat without gagging.

Janette do they know what causes that? Is it something with his Pallet or a texture thing? I know my Mom said I was really funny with textures so maybe that's his deal. He was coughing all night long though so now I'm wondering if his Asthma is acting up or if he's getting sick.

The best that we (his OT, his SLP, and I) have come up with yet is that it's a texture thing combined with sensory. I'm guessing that his high pallet has something to do with it too. I hate that asthmatic, refluxy night cough. We're dealing with that around here again too.
