At my WIC appt. yesterday the dietician told me that by this point Jackson should be taking 3 jars at a sitting. WHAT?! That is crazy, isn't it??!! I don't remember my girls (who are in the 95% ) and always have been, to eat 3 jars at one sitting.
Am I in the minority, does anyone else's gerdling or non-gerdling do this???
Just curious!

Andrew ate two jars by then at each sitting... I don't think he ever got to three.

Um...that's just plain crazy! Cady's always been a great eater and she finally got to two whole jars around 8 months old. She'd eat a jar of dinner and a fruit or a fruit and veggie. Something like that, but THREE JARS!!! Not even possible in many, many babies!

Even my friends with non-GERDlings don't expect their children to eat 3 jars at a sitting!

I'm sure these people read lots of books about what kids should and shouldn't eat, and I'm sure they're very good at parroting information they remember. However, it doesn't seem they have much real world experience, does it?

I'm no expert, but it sounds as if Jackson is doing just fine without eating that much at a sitting, thank you. :-)

No, Hobbes wouldn't have but Zoee was a different story...She could eat that muc. She neverknow what to stop eating so if you had food in front of her, she would eat it!

Its craziness, Emily. I swear, that WIC office must be speaking with my old GI in St. Louis. He insisted that Noah eat 10 jars per day, when Noah wouldn't really eat anything!

We're lucky if Catherine eats one jar a day (stage 2 jar). She never would have eaten that much at Jackson's age.

No Maya has just one jar per meal except maybe once a day she'll have a dinner jar and a dessert one and she is 9 months old. Aaron my ds and non gerdling never ate that much either. I agree with Mary these people are good at parroting what they have read but seem to have little real life experience.

Three jars at one sitting :yikes: that sounds crazy! Those silly people have no clue what they are talking about! Even when I worked at the daycare I never had a baby who ate 3 jars at a time! I think that by the time they get up to that much food, they are ready for table food! Just keep doing what you're doing:D

I'd say that is an unrealistic goal for any typical 6 month old to reach!!
Granted, Zac probably would have aten three in one sitting if I had continued. I started introducing a third jar at each meal around 8 months I think...and he ate it! Shortly after that we went on to more table foods, as kim said. Again, I dont think that is the norm though...I would not worry!

Wow. That is a lot of food for most kids that age. Walker was likely up to 2 jars around then and Curran would definately have been sucking back that much and more at times but he would puke the vast majority back up again anyway. Iain would not touch food until he was nearly 15 months of age.

I agree that you should go with your gut instinct. If he is fine with one or two then go with the flow. No sense forcing it and making a big negative experience out of eating.

There have been many times that I have heard some impossible numbers or amounts that Iain was supposed to be intaking and I just laughed eventually. Just getting him to lick some food was a great day so hearing that he needed to be at a certain measurement of food per sitting had me whacky in the begining. Just do what you feel is best for quantity.

That is crazy. Alot of people just start solids at 6 months so the babies certainly aren't eating that much. Mainly the solid eating is for practice. The milk is where they get all there good nutrition. These people would probably scream at me since Sarah refuses to eat ANY solids.

Emma has never been able to finish one jar at one sitting until recently. At eight months she was eating only two jars a day (but 32+ oz. of formula to make up for it).

Emma prefers table food, now - but I bet she'd still only eat one jar at a sitting. :(

That is ridiculous, Emily! Puh-leez!!!!

Joshua is almost 9mths old and eats 2 jars total on a good day! Granted, he only has solids at lunch and dinner still - doesn't want them in the a.m., yet another question for the Ped next week.

I'd say just keep doing what you are doing! You know what he needs...and it is clear that he is thriving under your care!

I never had a baby eat 3 jars at one sitting. Those WIC people think we mothers have no clue on how to take care of a baby. On e time I told my WIC office that they have no idea what they are talking about where it comes to feeding babies. If I could get KC to eat 3 jars a day that would be a miracal. I would tell those people where they could get off. they think that every baby is the same and they are not. When you have babies on special diets they think you and your ped are wrong. When it is they who are wrong.

Thanks girls, i knew that I wasn't crazy, but just wanted to make sure! LOL

I agree, they read in books, the amts, but come on, anymore, I am lucky to get Jackson to take a whole jar at a sitting, he is getting to where he doesn't want it either! **sigh**
Thanks again!

I say no way. Maybe she ment all day. I dont think the ladys at wic are DR.s so ask your PED. Unless they give vouchers for extra baby food I would not care. Getting our kids to eat at all is amazing in it self. ( I maybe too moody to answer this now. Sorry!)

Sounds nuts to me too. Kylie eats 2 jars each meal and she just turned 8 months.
