Hi everyone!

It's been a while since I've posted. I got the email that there were log in problems and thought I'd check in.

I started Gaby on cereal about a month and a half ago and it seems like she isn't swallowing much. She still has the tongue thrust, is that what it's called? Alex seemed to gobble up food right from the start.

She has her 6 mth shots/ well check on Wed. I'll bring it up to the GP. Also it's been a while, at least a month that she's had formed stools. I wonder about the Zantac causing constipation. But we've weened her to a once a day dose. She can't be taking much solids to make such a change in her stools. I 've tried water through a sippy cup but most ends up all over her bib. Do you think if I give her water mixed with prune juice in a bottle that it would help?

So many questions.

Thanks in advance!

I hope and pray everyone and their babies are well. I will try to catch up with reading some posts and try to reply/post more.

Are you able to figure out how much she is actually ingesting? I used to mix up a few tablespoons of cereal or whatever and then scoop the goop and measure how much was left when it was all done. Iain had that incredible thrust and he ingested a lick at the most each meal. Everything else was thrust out and I would scoop it back into a bowl for measuring if it was not appropriate to try to get into the mouth again. KWIM?

Are her stools like mashed potatoes, applesauce, rabbit pellets, mushroom soup, or watery?

I thought our OT was nuts to say that kids should be on a regular cup at 6 months when they are GERDlings but it can work with a LOT of practice and perseverence. I would give a minute amount each time and for my other two it worked well but they transitioned to the sippy cup first. Iain has never truly progressed well to the sippy and does better with a regular cup now and he is 26 months old so I may be the last one to ask on that! lol

Prune juice in a small quantity is the best way to start. Give it a shot and see where it "goes".

Thanks Leigh!

I think she takes about 4-5 baby spoons, so maybe close to 1 tablespoon of cereal. Is that enough? She doesn't seem that keen on it either. She'll laugh and think it's a game, she grabs the spoon and the bowl. I've given her another spoon to play with while I feed her too.

I'm going to try butternut squash with her for lunch today. I'm going to try to be more accurate with measuring what actually goes in her this time, thanks for the tips.

Her stool looks more like rabbit pellets. Yesterday she just one little one (grape size) and this morning another little one but a bit bigger than yesterday's (maybe the size of 1 and a half grapes).

This morning before reading your post, I tried giving her prune/apple juice mixed with water in a bottle. She didn't really like it and maybe sucked out 5ml?? I'll try the regular cup like you've suggested. I've also read and heard about regular cup use as infant. In fact, my DH's cousin had twin girls and I guess they had sucking/latching issues. My MIL said the nurses had them drink EBM from a cup at just days old?? Unbelieveable!

Thanks again!
