UGH, we were on a roll with Tucker doing great. About 2-1/2 weeks with NO retching at all. Since his mold incident on Monday (if you didn't see my previous post--he had mold growing in his g-tube!), he's been retching and it's getting worse. Our GI's partner is on call, and it's almost more bother than it's worth explaining the whole thing to him since he has only seen Tucker about 3 times (and each of those being when he was in the hospital). At this point, since we've been through this so many times before (albeit without the mold factor), I feel like I know what GI is going to tell me to do. I guess this has turned into more of a vent than a question....but here's a question, do you guys actually bother to call the GI if you have a retcher and they are having a rough few days? Or do you let your Dr. Mom kick in and try to dael with it on your own first? Sometimes I feel like I call our GI too much.

Thanks for letting me vent.

With Justin I dont call the doc unless it last for a long period of time and the pain doesnt subside. I have been dealing with it for so long that I just do what we have been doing since day one.

You shouldnt feel that you call the gi to much. I know for us in the begining we were calling the gi doc all the time but now that Justin is older it is easier to figure things out. I know how fustrating it must be for you because he cant tell you what is bothering him.

I would call the gi if things dont improve or if it seems different than usual. You know your child best and knows what he needs more than anyone.

No, I don't call either, I think I do a better job LOL. I have learned that with Eli taking away all foods and putting him on liquids a few days is what helps. Every child is different and we know them best. Of course I am not saying you shouldn't call!!! Especially with if they are weak and looking dehydrated.

Sam does not retch often, but he has had a few rough spells and I have learned what works for him--but I did call the doc on sunday---see my post in updates. You just have to trust your mommy gut, you know your kid the best and if you are not comfortable you should call. I feel like I can deal with most of Sam's issues better than any doc because we have been thru so much with him, I just know what works--but if i run out of ideas, I call--usually when i do, we end up in the ER!

My little guy retches a lot! I'm not sure the GI would really DO anything about it other than what we're already doing. We're facing another fundo. You're doing a great job!! Keep your chin up! That's what the docs are there for!!

I'm reading this in September...wondering how things are going and what you end up doing when it is bad. We are beginning to go through it too.

Thanks!

Just wanted to say the Sam's retching increased this summer and we switched food (peptamen jr) and that made a huge difference. He has only has 2 retching episodes since we changed early in July!
