I think with Sarah's delayed emptying she has trouble taking a bottle and eating solids at the same time. Ajthough she doesn't seem to take any anyway. My ped wants me to try skipping a bottle and giving her solids instead. I don't know about this because she barely takes enough milk right now. I give her a bottle at 9am, 1pm, 5pm, 9pm, and 1am and she averages about 24oz/day. Should I try what the ped suggests and skip one of the bottles during the day and offer her solids? I kind of feel like the milk is more important right now because it has more calories and is easier on her delayed emptying. Should I give her solids between each bottle= like a couple hours after each bottle. It just seems like I am feeding her all the time if I do it that way. I am at such a loss as to how to get her to eat solids. Should I be caoncerned or just keep on letting her play with her food and not eat it?

I am also suprised that the Dr. wants you to skip a bottle. Ours was more concerned with Connor getting his bottles in than solids. I use to give Connor a bottle and solids at the same time and it made him miserable. Now I've been trying to give solids about an hour or so after a bottle and he does better. He still doesn't eat a ton of solids but it's a start.

Karie, my daughter has never taken much formula... she was averaging about 16 ounces a day (4 bottles) before we started solids. I couldnt give solids and bottles near each other. I gave her a bottle and then at least 1 hour but more like 2 later I would give her solids. Then a couple hours later another bottle and so on. It is very normal for kids to lessen formula when taking solids.. they make up the calories from that one bottle in the food they are eating.
I know I have a different child because she has been eating table food since 7 months and she has been on a sippy for awhile now too, but... now she gets breakfast in the morning, formula about an hour after and then when she has lunch she has formula about an hour after that and then same with dinner. She averages about 9 ounces a day now (I know WAY too little - but it's all she eats) and her solids/table food.
Anyway... my suggestion is to try two things - 1. try giving her solids in between bottles and see how that goes... if she still isnt taking them well, then try 2. cutting out a bottle...
this is kinda how our day looked when we started:
9am - bottle
11am - solids
1pm - bottle
3pm - solids
5pm - bottle
7pm - solids
9pm - bottle
Now... like this:
9am - breakfast
10am - Sippy
1pm - lunch
2pm - Sippy
4pm - Snack (because daddy gets home later for dinner)
6pm - dinner
8pm - Sippy
Thats it... I hope that helps... try it out and see what works for you... it is possible to do the solids inbetween the bottles and keep them in there - 24 ounces and solids is "normal." Then again my kid NEVER ate 24 ounces in her life! lol So... good luck!!!

Janette, she'll be one in June.
How about offering her solids before bottle time, and then if she doesn't take much, just give her the bottle anyway? That way you're giving her the opportunity, and it's a good learning experience even if she takes just a little, but you can still feel OK about her getting what she needs.

Thanks for the age, ladies! (My answer would have varied depending on that.) You guys have already got it pretty much covered. :)
