My Dr. said that I should put 1 tsp of cereal for every oz. of formula in my DD's bottle. Should I expect her to eat less with the thickened formula? I suppose I should, but how much less is to be expected. She's 10 weeks and currently eats between 3 1/2-4 1/2 oz per bottle every four hours. She usually eats maybe 5 oz for the first and last bottles of the day. I just tried her with the cereal any she only took 2 1/2 oz, and I really had to get her to work to take that! Is that o.k.? I'm using the Dr. Brown's bottles with the y-cut. Also, I'm using Alimentum Ready to feed. Is that thicker anyway? Should I not use as much cereal? It seemed like she was really sucking, but not getting much!
Thanks for any advice you can give!!

I use a similar amount of cereal in my sons bottle. I battled bottles and cereal for months, and I finally found a no fail system. I use the Dr. Brown's #3 nipples instead of the Y-cuts. Noah could never suck the cereal through at that age. I take the box of cereal and put it in my food processor for about 3 minutes, then I just pour it into a tupperware container. The cereal goes from being flakey to being powdery, which makes it mix more smoothly. Then, to make his formula, I pour an entire RTF jug into a pitcher, and then I add the appropriate amount of cereal. Then, I shake the heck out of it and pour it into the bottles or just store the mixed formula in the fridge. It works great. I don't ever get any clogs, and Noah is able to drink the bottles easily. It sounds like a lot of work, but I do 4 boxes of cereal at a time, and I only have to do it every 2 weeks or so, so its really not a big deal. I hope this helps! Oh, and if the #3's flow to quickly, the processed cereal will go through a #2 as well. We used that when we didn't add as much cereal.

Thanks for respoding! I'll try the level #3, she was already using the level #2 with the regular alimentum, so maybe the mixing of the cereal in the blender with the level 3 nipple will work better for her. Should I expect her to eat less of it though? I've always been concerned about how much she eats, so I just was wondering if I should expect her to eat less? I have to hurry and finish now, as she is asleep in her swing (instead of on me) for a change, but she only lasts about 30 minutes before she starts crying. Oh, I wish she could sleep as long as other babies do in a swing! Most of her naps are on me because I think I have gotten her used to that!
