We had a gi appointment on Thurs for Justin and it went well. They pulled the pic line so we were able to stop the TPN and antibiotics. He finally was able to tolerate his feeds and also able to eat orally. The doc felt that he was getting enough calorie intake so that is why no more TPN.
Justin is still having delays with his bowels and it is fustrating him. He was doing better last week but the last two days his oral intake has not been that good because he feels full all the time. He is still not passing his bowel on a regular basis even with the stimulants. I am having a hard time with him because he wont take his feeds refusing to let me start them. He wants to go back to school eating orally and not on the pump.
I am going to give him a couple days and if he is not taking enough in orally he will have to go back to the pump. The doc really feels that all of the issues are related to motility issues that have now moved to his bowels. At this point he seems to be doing okay on the zelnorm and the erthyromicn but I have not seen a great difference.
Overall he is doing so much better than four weeks ago when this all started so that is a good thing. The only thing that makes me nervous is that the problems can happen again just as his other motility issues do. I am just hoping that it wont be any time soon. I want to thank everyone for their support during his hospital stay and recovery.
