How many of you with kids being seen by an OT for sensory have a child on a "sensory diet"? For those not familiar with that term, so far Evan's sensory diet has consisted of joint compressions, oral stimulation with various types of brushes as well as with hands, vestibular/proprioceptive activity, sensory play with various textures of toys and materials (including messy ones), and the Benik vest.

Janette, we haven't had to see an O.T. I do always allow the boys to play with vaious textures, no matter how messy LOL.

Janette, the Ot is trying some of these things with Hobbes. We did the compression but it didn't work for him. It made him hyper nad then he had a lot of "meltdowns" an hour after the compressions were done. We are going to try the electric toothbrushes and there is a swing that we are going to try for the vestibular issues. They did a lot of different things with him at school like bubbles and etc. Is that a Sensory diet?

I'm not sure if the bubbles are part of the sensory diet, but the swinging is certainly another good one. Evan loves that! The joint compressions had a very relaxing, focusing effect on him. Have you tried doing hand stands against the wall or pushing with his finger tips against the wall? What about rolling him up in a blanket and rolling him, or wrapping him in a bean bag chair and rough housing him, or lying him with his belly over an exercise ball and rocking him forward and back? These are some of Evan's favourites.
