she was saying bye bye, baby, ball and mama for about 3 weeks. for the last 2 weeks she hasn't said a thing. i'm starting to think she will never talk. she is seeing an ST and OT for feeding and speech issues. she is 17 months old, do you think she will ever talk?

Often when kids become more mobile or are learning something new, their speech goes out the window for a while. I hope that is all that it is. Having said that, we spent oodles of time with words coming and going, and being forgotten. When will you start the feeding and speech therapies?

Thanks! I hope that's all it is. She is just babbling away. The ST starting coming the end of Jan 06 and the OT starting coming end of Feb 06. She is cutting some new teeth but not learning anything new and she's been real mobile for a long time now.

I think 17 months is still young to be speaking on a consistent basis. Our doctor won't even consider therapy until Andrew is two..but his speech is starting to pick up so at this time I am not concerned.

Good Luck with the therapy!

I know we shouldn't compare kids. my friend's daughter is 3 months older then Eliana. she's been talking for quite awhile on a consistant basis. Eliana just started talking with her first words at 16 months (now 17 months). it just worries me and I know I shouldn't compare her. the national average for saying the first word is 6 months old. by 12 months they can say mama and dada. or maybe it's just cuz she cut 3 teeth and has 4-5 more on the way and with ll the coughing and congestion she doesn't want to talk. I hope this is the case. Eliana was evaluated by early intervention back in December 05. children who have feeding issues, food aversions are behind in speech and therefore they started us with a ST and OT for speech, fine motor (which is super now was a bit slow at this) and feeding issues/food aversions.

thanks :hello2:
