At Jackson's GI appointment he told me to stop all "cereal". He was eating Fruit Puffs at the time and he told him to enjoy his last few. I said he can't have those?? I then asked Cheerios he said no.....I said Ritz Crackers.....he said I don't think so and the nurse wasn't sure. I guess I should of asked then but what ingredient am I avoiding?? She wrote down on our sheet to watch for whey and caesin. When he says cereal I think of rice and oatmeal. I have been noticing rice flour is in a lot of things out of the few things he can eat :smt047 ......My gut tells me he doesn't have a "cereal" intolerance/allergy but the GI is seeming to think this could be the core of his reflux/constipation issues.

I am going to call her tomorrow to clairfy (she doesn't work Mondays), just trying to figure this out somewhat before I :hairpull:

Hmm... I don't know.
Beech nut makes a cereal that is strictly rice flour, if you are only avoiding the whey and casein, maybe you could use it.
That is strange, because the fruit puffs **Gerber ones** don't have whey or casein in them, I looked at the container this evening out of curiosity.
Let us know what you find out, I would be interested to know!

Well...I would suspect flour? The only reason I say this is my nephew is on the Gluten free, casein free diet for Autism and he cannot have anything with flour in it either...He also has a few intolerances too...Can't remember them all but I am positive they are relevent to the ones I mentioned:)

I would call tomorrow, so you have a better understanding as to "why" your doing this!
Good Luck meaghan

Hmm maybe it could be rice flour or all flour then. I was just think taking away all this stuff from him is mean lol. Plus how rare is it for them to be allergic to flour?

Oh well I guess we will give it a few weeks and see if his reflux and constipation improve like his GI said they will. Can't hurt I guess. When they keep taking food away from him that means me too lol so maybe that is why I am thinking....nooo please.

Wait it can't be flour because she told me a kind of bread he could have by Sara Lee......oh well I am calling her in the morning. I just wonder if he knows what he is talking about.

Meagan, I would just specifically ask what allergens he wants you to avoid (ie, soy, dairy, etc.). If he is calling Jackson MSPI then you will want to avoid all of the soy and dairy deriviatives, too. Not just casein and whey.

Let us know what he says. Now I'm curious!

Good idea Amanda. I think she was just telling me the main ones to watch for :dontknow:.

I will definitely update tomorrow with what she says. I work tomorrow until 2 but hopefully will hear back from her before that.

This stuff can get confusing!!

I'm curious as well. You should do as Amanda said and ask for a list of specific ingredients that you should avoid. Many cereals are dairy-free. Cady eats lots of them, so I'm thinking it's something else. Seems like the GI sent you out sort of blindly. Well, hopefully, you get some answers tomorrow.

Talk about leaving you confused. I would call and ask for specifics. Lilke Emily said, Beechnut makes milk and soy free cereals. Noah, who reacts to all foods, does fine (as far as we know) with Beechnut rice cereal in his bottles. I hope Jackson finds relief with the diet change, but it would help to know exactly what KIND of diet change, huh? lol. Let us know what you find out.

I'm confused too! Why were they not more specific? Argh!

Let us know what you find out!
