My 2 yr old dd had her fundo and g tube placemnet on 4/4. She had the epidural until yesterday and slowly is starting to sit up and take small bites of food. She is unable to stand and bear weight yet and shows little interest in food yet. So far everything has gone ok but I am so afraid something will go wrong. She actually slept thru the night last night for the first time in 6 months. No more holding her sitting up all night so she can be comfortable. Just wanted to say so far so good and the G tube is so easy to use and is great for the medications. No more battling drugs with her around meals. They already cut some drugs out so we are keeping our fingers crossed. I will keep everyone updated. If anyone has any suggetions on anything post fundo please let me know. Hopefully she will go home on Monday and at this point they are trying to work on calories and feeds before they discharge her.

Daniel has a G tube, but no fundo so I don't have that experience. I'm glad your happy with the G tube, though. It was our lifesaver. I hope things continue to go well! Let us know....

I have no experience with fundos or G-tubes but just wanted to wish you luck. It sounds like she is doing good so far, I will definitely keep you all in my prayers!

I have three kids that have had fundos and only two of them have had gtubes placed. Have they had to use the gtube for feeds or venting? Will she be able to eat orally?

If she will be able to eat orally make sure to take it slow and not rush foods. The fundo can cause a great deal of swelling in the esophagus which in turn can cause food to get stuck. This is quite common and can happen frequently but can be scarry to see. Make sure that the docs give you a post fundo diet and ask to talk to the dietician before you leave. I do wish you luck and if you run into any problems or have questions please feel free to ask.

I am glad she is oding so good for you. It sounds to me that she is right on track for where she should be. Just take it really slow when you get home with her. Give her at least 6 weeks to start to heal from the surgery and go over the "UCLA Post-Nissen Diet list" http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7832 Remember if you go slow with the foods and stick to the list of safe foods it will keep her from having any set backs.
Will she have her g-tube feeds at night and eat by mouth during the day ? My son has had the fundo 4 times his 1st was when he was 3.5 years old his g-tube placement wasn't done for several months afterwards.
If you have any other specific questions feel free to ask. I am once again so glad she seems to doing well !!!

It sounds like she's on the right track for recovery. Good luck and we'll be thinking of you and hoping for a quick recovery.

Hang in there is my advice!

I am glad the surgery went well and now all you have to do is help her stay comfy and keep her away from food until she recovers. That is the hard part. Each time we would give and "see" if he could handle something we would regret it. Please continue to keep us updated.

Take it slow, really slow, and it will make a difference in the long run :smt047
