OK This whole feeding thing is so frustrating! I never knew that something as simple as feeding your child could be so dificult! Yesterday, Connor ate alomost a whole jar of squash now today he took 2 bites and gagged to the point where he almost threw up. WTF. I feel like this kid is wasting away. He only eats about 15 oz maybe 20 on a good day. I know that compared to some kiddos on here that sounds great but for Connor it is not and he just looks skinny to me. He doesn't act like he's hurting, he smiles a lot and plays but he is fighting eating. Sorry kind of more of a vent but what am I suppose to do if he gags on purees? The only food he seems to like is applesauce and I'm not quite sure if it's on our "ok"list or not.

Kim, here is my only advice to you. Even if he gags on it, you have to keep trying that same food with him over and over as long it doesn't cause any physical reaction. Cady gagged on anything other than simple purees for the longest time and she not only gagged but retched, so hard she did vomit. I wanted so badly to quit and feed her simple purees forever, but I kept at it and after many, many tries and much, much puke, she took to those foods. Feeding a gagger is plain frightening, because it can be so violent. However, many times, it is a reaction to the taste of the food rather than a texture thing. You have to be persistent, especially since you KNOW that Connor has the physical ability to swallow properly if he managed to eat almost a whole jar the prior day without gagging. It's probably a "yuck, why are you feeding me this crap?" thing.

Kim, Jackson is exactly the same if his reflux is flaring. Is that a possibility? Is his Nexium maxxed out?
Have you tried the applesauce/rice cereal blends? Jackson loves those and it would give him a few more calories.
I tell you what else I have been giving him, since sometimes he doesn't want to eat at all, (Does Connor like peaches) if so, I gave Jackson Peach cobbler yesterday and he ate the whole jar **of course** but I looked at the ing. and it isn't that bad, a little added sugar, which our kids could use anyway, since they like to go on hunger strike! LOL
Also, the Dutch Apple Dessert.
Good luck, things will get better, I promise!

It's been a rough week for solids around here too, Kim, so I feel your pain! He has been clamping his mouth shut and shaking his head from side to side when I try to feed him...such fun!!
