I was at a friends house this week and went in to her kitchen to make Joshua's bottle. As I was turning on the faucet, she looked at me like I was getting ready to poison my child!

"Don't you use bottled water for his bottles?" she asked. What?! We have really good water in Colorado, tastes great straight from the tap and is very clean.

Am I missing something??

I dont bother... my kid is going to be eating food and drinking the water when she isnt on formula, why the h*ll would I keep her from it now? lol I guess I'm kinda like that with everything... I even fed my kid EGGS! lol Bah! half the bottled water out there is just bottles tap water anyway!!! lol :)

I use both for Owen. When he was smaller I used the bottled water only but now I use whatever is in reach. It won't hurt them at all and usually tap water is actually cleaner than the bottled one.

Your friend is actually missing out on the fluoride that's in tap water. I've always used tap water for Catherine, and I never even boiled it.

I've always used tap water, except when Kaylin was little and didn't know any better.

Over here boiled tap water is reccommended for the first year and after that tap is fine. Lesley is correct, bottled water does not contain fluride and people now are having a lot of problems with their kids' teeth so small.

I boiled tap water for a year with Zachary that he was on the bottle, and with Andrew, when he started formula, I used bottled water with fluoride in it!

I never boiled water or bought tap water for Zac. Then again he was BF for 12 months but when I DID give him water after 4 months, it was always tap. I guess it's just personal perference but I agree that they should be getting the flouride. I don't think there's a thing wrong w/using tap.

Honestly, for Cady, I only boiled the water for her for the first month after we stopped breastfeeding, then I just used straight tap water. With Kaylin, I started using straight tap water when she was 6 months old.

Here's a link I found re: bottled water/tap water...
Bottled water verses filtered water (http://www.wholehouse-waterfilters.com/Bottled%20Water.htm)

Here's an exerpt I took from it: "The truth about bottled water is that it is often little more than tap water in a bottle. Millions and millions of dollars are spent each week on advertising campaigns to give consumers the perception that bottled water comes from some pristine mountain spring or magical underground aquifer."

LOL about the magical underground aquifer.

lol Thanks Sara... I read an article about the water here on Long Island once... it was cleaner than 3 out of 4 bottled waters!!! hahahahahaha Poland Spring was the best water when they did the little test thing - thats what I drink. BUT I use tap water to cook and make K's bottles and for koolaide and tea and everything... I just cant drink the tap water here after growing up on Detroits chlorinated to all h*ll tap water :) hehehehe Whe I go home I usually fill a few bottles to bring back with me hahahahahaha I'm a nut I know! :)

Well ladies, since this is what I do for a living... I'll chime in (I would have anyways...lol). I've always made Lauren's bottles from bottled water. The main reason being that we have spring water at our house and right before I got preggo, I took my sampling kits home from work and found that the spring water was actually contaminated with both total and fecal coliform. Now, total coliform usually isn't harmful, it's more of an indicator that there may be other bacteria in the water. Fecal coliform usually comes from human/fecal waste. Since we live in the forest, I'm guess the fecal coliform in our water is from animal waste, as our septic is located downhill from the spring.

Anyways, I don't really see a problem with using tap water if it's coming from a well. With a spring, it can be contaminated with so many things that will make your child sick. That's not saying that a well can not become contaminated, but it is highly unlikely as compared to a spring.

Once I found that our water was contaminated, it was actually cheaper to buy a Culligan bottled water system as compared to installing treatment.

With Ben I boiled water for a few months and then went to tap. With Sam--right from the tap--he is the second child!

I used the baby bottled water probably til she was about 9 motnhs old and now use filtered water. If she is anything like me her teeth need all the help they can get.

I use the baby flouridated bottled water. I did with Ashlee too. But I lived in Atlanta when Ash was a baby and live right outside of Atlanta now so our water is a little iffy. My friend's ped said you only have to worry about boiling or using bottled if you live in a big metro city. We have had boil water advisories for a week at a time here in the past. I don't wanna take those chances!

Hmmm...this has turned into an interesting discussion!

Just to add another note, I do have a filter on the faucet at home, but will use regular tap if I'm out and about and in a pinch.

I use our well water for making coffee and cooking, but we don't drink it straight b/c it tastes different to me (grew up on city water). It's safe, though. We have a ultraviolet system that blasts our water with UV light to kill all germs and bacteria, if there were any.

Like Sandy, we purchase a supply of drinking water for drinking (that's flouridated). Emma has always taken RTF formula...

You girls are funny!! Sara... you're probably just use to city water.. am I right??

The egg smell comes from hydrogen sulfide.

Here in Pittsburgh, the water is AWEFUL! So when she was born, we already had bottled water service and we used only that. Every few bottles though I would throw in a little tap water for the floride. When her father and I split, he kept the service with the house and I just bought one of those water purifying jugs/container that you pour the water in and it filters, supposdly it does not filter out the floride.

I haven't heard one in a while. They're kinda scary though. When I was pregnant I drank bottled or filtered water too because of that.

Not to offend, But I hate well water too. When I was a kid I use to hate staying night at my friend Kris's house cause it smelled so bad. lol It was horrible to shower in too!
