Ok, so I tried to thicken Connor's squash this am. I only put 1 tsp of rice cereal for 1/2 jar (stage 1 solids) he took about 4 very small bites and then started gagging. So if he won't let me thicken his solids what should I do? I'm afraid if I don't thicken he will just Reflux them right up. Geesh I never realized how many problems a kid could have with food! My first son ate everything! Did any of you with pukers not thicken there solids?

Just a question... is he is pain when he "just refluxes them up?" If not... let it happen and dont thicken... if he is in pain then I would talk to the Dr about it.
I dont have much else to say I guess...

I started out thickening Cady's baby food, but I stopped when she was seven months and put on thickened formula. She ate it better anyway and went from eating only 1 jar at 7 months to eating 2 jars of stage 2 food in only a week. She did puke up the baby food a lot more when it wasn't thickened, but her pain was well under control by that time, so it didn't bother her. I'm not sure about Connor's pain right now, but it wouldn't hurt to try it unthickened at least for one or two feedings to see how he does.

I thicken for extra calories. Catherine did not require thickening to reduce puking; thickening made no difference with solids and actually made her puking a lot worse when she was very young.

***sigh*** Kim, I just don't know, is it possible that he just doesn't like the squash. They say that babies tastes change quickly.
Jackson will gag if he doesn't want to eat what I'm giving him. I tried Sweet potatoes and turkey, he gagged until I quit. Hmmm.... manipulative they are! LOL
I have no advice. {{{hugs}}}
