I was wondering if there are any good spreads, besides peanut butter on the market for allergy-prone kids. I won't give Cady PB yet, but I think she's getting bored with just butter. Any suggestions?

Avacado? Pea butter? All natural jam?

I was going to suggest pea butter too. It looks like peanut butter, but is made from peas and is actually quite good. (Thanks for the sample last spring, Leigh!)

Pea butter. I'll check at the natural foods store where I get Cady's rice milk. I've heard that tossed around here for a while. Kids like that stuff okay?

I just bought some peabutter a couple weeks ago and it's really not bad at all. I will start using it with Owen after he turns one.
You could also try applebutter.

Are you staying away from nuts all together? If not, then try almond or cashew butter. The natural food store should have that too. My mom is deathly allergic to peanuts and this is the only kind of nut butter she can have. Tasty too!

She's not necessarily allergic to nuts, but she is allergic to milk and since she is obviously prone to food allergies her GI and ped. don't want her having nuts until after her 3rd birthday. So, I'm not sure about almond or cashew butter. I'm inclined not to try it yet though. Maybe when she's two. That's a good suggestion, though.

I can totally see that now.

What about some applesauce? My mom used to always put that on my toast. She also made pear butter...yum! I'm getting nostalgic now. ;)

Maybe there's a cream cheese type spread made from rice milk?

Our natural foods store has rice milk ice cream, rice cream cheese like stuff, tons of natural jams and jellies...I bet yours does too. Good luck!

Lauren loves applebutter... and so does mommy. I don't have any other suggestions for you Judy... Lauren's favorite toast is the cinnamon sugar.

The rice milk ice cream is pretty good. We bought if for Abby when she was still off of cow's milk. They had soy too, and she wasn't allergic to soy, but they never had it in vanilla scoop containers, and she HAD to have vanilla in a cone. If you are use to all out full fat vanilla ice cream made with cow's milk...it would be an adjustment. But the kid;s wouldn't know the difference. It made good milk shakes too...with rice or soy of course. Nesquick is milk free and only contains soy lecithin, so if you kid isn't severely allergic to soy, then you can make chocolate one's with nesquick. Abby loved it! The brand was Rice Dream. I am sure there are probably others, but this is a very small store, so they don't stock a lot of stuff. For those who can have soy, but not milk, there is an old fashioned ice cream sandwhich too. You know the ones with the vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two chocolate cookies? Now those were dee-lish! I can't remember the brand of those. Anyway, I hope you can find some. We always had it for Abby's b-day along with her milk free cake!
