I was just curious if you guys thickened stage one baby food? If so how much did you add. I'm wondering if the stuff is just too thin not thickened.

I mix 3 tablespoons of oatmeal with a jar of stage 2 fruit or veggie. It makes the stuff about the consistency of white paste. Thick but not lumpy.

I thicken Em's for extra calories. I do exactly the same as Lesley.

Do your kiddos eat all of it? That sounds like a lot. I could be wrong. How much do you think I should add for a jar of stage 1? He won't eat it if it's too thick.

OMGoodness, no! Em only eats half of a jar, plus something else at one sitting...and she's 13 months old. I'm sure most kids could eat more than that...but she's a s-l-o-w eater and can't handle much at one sitting.

For dinnner she had 4 oz. formula, 1/2 jar of squash, and 1/4 cup pasta.

How many oz. is in a stage 1? 2 1/2 oz? I would maybe add 1 Tablespoon and see how that is?? If it's still too runny...you could add another 1/2 Tablespoon?

Kim - I recently moved to Stage 2 and really didn't notice that much difference in the thickness. It might be enough for what you are looking for though.

I would add about a 1tbls to it and see how it is. I thicken Owen's purees with Oatmeal as well and he eats it up. He is passed the stage 1 or 2 jars. Now he'll eat stage 3 fruits and veggies that he can tolerate(which isn't many). He usually gobbles down the whole jar.

I do sometimes, I just add enough rice cereal to make it a mushy consistency~
How is he doing on the food??? I know that the squash didn't agree w/him. Poor thing.

Also, if Jackson likes it, he will eat a whole 4 oz. jar. More than one a day usually!

Catherine will eat a whole 4oz jar sometimes if that's all she's having. She has very little variety in her diet beyond stage 2 purees and oatmeal. Last night for dinner, she ate a few cheerios. She is not given formula with her solids or she wouldn't eat anything.

Emily, do you give Jackson his solids with a bottle or inbetween bottles?

Here is how I have been doing it, at 7am he gets a bottle, then at 8am I give him solid. At 11am he will get another bottle, at noon more solid, at 3pm bottle, at 5 pm I will feed him **dinner** then one more bottle at 7pm. That has worked for us, it makes sure that he takes all or most of his bottle and then he will usually eat all of his solid.
Hope that helps!:smt047

Thanks, before I was giving him his solids with his bottle so maybe it was just too much at one time.

That is possible. Try to space it out a bit. It has been working for us, so far.
