This week our new veggie is green beans and I'm wondering if maybe Austin can't handle them. All week he has been progressively having reflux flareups again. He was doing so good! Now he is arching again, screaming, swallowing, hiccupping, gagging himself ( my little balemic baby!), and loses his breathe momentarily and I can tell something is coming up when he does it because he makes that face but doesn't puke. I've got a call into his GI and am waiting for a call back. Just wanted some opinions from you guys as well. He is also teething but the darn things just won't come through already! It's been a fun week!!:favorites60:

Hi, our babies are a week apart! Mine has silent ger but still very painfull for her...I can relelate big time to your description of Austin. Mine gags herself all the time, hiccups a lot....especially when I try food. She loves the taste of seewt potatos, squash and carrots (the only ones i've tried recently) And she's sooooo much fussier. Fussy is not the word to describe it. I just barely got prevacid 2 weeks ago and it has seemed to stop working. I posted my gripes about it in the quesitons forum today. But anyway, I think we just have to wait longer for food. They say 4-6 months to introduce 1st foods but that's for "normal" babies. I know, me too...I wanted to feed my baby and experience something new with her, but they just can't handle it yet. Hopefully we'll have a 8 month success story and all this crap will disappear. And if not, then we'll just do the best we can. Bummer...honestly though...I'm giving up on food for now....it's like taking steps backward.

Re: Hiccups, I give her 5ml of ColicEase and it stops her hiccups instantly! Every time. Super natural ingredients. www.colicease.com (http://www.colicease.com)

Austin too loves the squash and carrots. I know what you mean about the SUPPOSE to be fun trying new experiences with your baby! I am so sick of reflux!

My GI's nurse just called back (I love how quickly they respond to my questions). She said stop the greenbeans and do not try any new foods for the next week. Go back to something he has already responded well to. We need to increase his prevacid to 2.5 ml twice a day, if that doesn't help go up to 3, put even more cereal in his bottles because over the last month his puking has slowly gotten horrible again ( Yay!!). So now we need to do 1.5 tbsp per ounce (which means he'll probably end up needing an increase in his miralax too). And try infant mylanta 1cc 3 times a day as needed! Yay 1 more medicine to add to the list:smt105 . I swear by the time he grows out of this I will be diagnosed clinicaly insane!

She also suggested we may need to get our prevacid filled every 2 weeks instead of every month because it does lose it's stability before the month is up. So the last two weeks of the bottle it really isn't working right for him. I just got it filled a week and a half ago though so right now that is not our problem. She also wants me to have him checked by his ped to make sure he doesn't have some other underlying problem which can cause reflux flare ups such as ear infection or cold. She said everything can effect reflux babies worse.

Teething can make things worse too but shouldn't make it this bad. So she doesn't think that is the culprit.

D**n you greenbeans!!!

Green beans were TERRILBE for Noah, but it had more to do with his solid reaction than a reflux flare. I'd avoid them for a while, and then try again in a few weeks and see if the reaction is the same. Or, just ditch them altogether! Who needs green beans anyways!?!

Yeah green beans are not a favorite of mine either. We don't need 'em!!

Leigh, I noticed Noah gets maalox. Do you know if there is a difference in maalox and mylanta or do they work the same?

I'm not sure how old your little munchkin is ( I get confused as sometimes you put your months and days around the opposite to what we do here- so I'm not sure if he was born 11th feb or 2nd nov!!!) but green beans are hard on the digestive system and they don't recommend them here until around 9 months of age. We have been fine with beens.. but I didn't introduce them until the boys were almost a year old.

Sarah, I assume that Austin was born in November since Jenn joined IRD at that time.
Green beans didn't go to well over here either, I will give them a try again soon since Owen didn't have them for quite a while.

My Dr told me and they are, to watch out for Green Beans as they can be a bit gassy for babies... K does get some gas with them but she handles it pretty well!! :)

Sarahh- yeah he was born in November. That is so funny that they do it differently over there!

Thanks everyone. Back to squash and carrots!
