We were visiting some friends today. Their little girl is 3 months old and, after many struggles, is finally on soy formula. She has a severe milk allergy and could no longer bf.

Anyway, what surprise me was the amount she eats! She takes 7 oz every 3-4 hours. Wow! Joshua is 8 mths old and only takes in 6 oz!

I am crazy to be surprised by this?!

That does suprise me. Jackson has is mainly bf but when taking a bottle never takes more then 4 oz, but he eats smaller amounts more often I guess to make up for it.

Wow 7 oz every 3 to 4 hours does seem like a lot!!!

Mason is 9 weeks and takes 8 ounces every 3-4 hours, lol. AND it's thickened like honey. That's why I asked about him being such a butterball. :D

He has been eating this since 3 weeks old!! (Except back then it was 6 ounces with an extra feed)

The GI told me it is because he started out comfort feeding for his belly aches and to coat his raw esophagus and now he has to eat it tomaintain himself. He would eat mroe if I let him, that is just where I cut him off.

Wow! I wondered about the comfort feeding...makes sense! I think she may have inherited her dad's crazy metabolism too! He eats like he's starved but is skinny and thin!

My friends baby who is only 1 1/2 months already eats 6 oz at at time. Sheesh, I don't think Connor will ever work up to that.

Zac was strictly BF at that time so hard for me to say how much he was actually taking..but that does sound like a lot for that age!

Doesnt really surprise me! lol I think normal babies eat like that hahahaha :) It was so weird to me to see my Great niece eating 4 - 8oz bottles a day... it looked like so much formula!! lol K was barely taking in 4 or 5 at a time!! lol They are only a couple months apart!

That does seem like a lot! But, if she's staying on her growth curve and isn't vomiting, then it's probably what she needs.

At that age, Em was taking 2-3 oz. every 2 hours. She stopped at those oz. no matter what...if it was 6 hours or 2 hours from her last bottle. She just can't stomach a lot of food/liquid at once.

My older DD ate like that. I think at three months old, she was taking in about 40 ozs. a day. That's 8 ozs. five times a day. Anyway, I ended up giving her solids really early, because she was sucking back so much formula. Cady, though could never stomach much more than 4-6 ozs. at a time. She is still this way. I can tell you that if Cady had come first, I would probably have thought there was something wrong with Kaylin for eating so much. Some babies just handle more formula in their tummies than others.

Sounds exactly like my Brooke, she started out comfort eating before reflux was diagnosed, so now she eats big to maintain her weight...she has 4 bottles a day 8oz per one. she has 1 at 6am, 1 at 10am 1 at 2pm, and her last for the day at 6pm, then into bed at 7pm.

Catherine took 1-2oz about every two hours until she was close to 6mo old. She's never taken more than 4oz at a time and even now will sip on a cup for hours instead of guzzling it. Her only efficient feeds have always been, and still are, at night.

Miori...that is EXACTLY how Andrew ate! I know for him it was the Comfort feeding! He'd eat that amount, but would take him an hour to eat it, then would want more after he puked it all up!

I Don't know if anyone suggested this yet but, maybe she's now making up for all the lost calories of breastfeeding and her milk allergy? I think this is the end result of an ongoing comfort feeding routine. A lot of babies on here comfort feed...mine would if I let her but she just barfs way too much...luckily she takes a pacifier...I just pop it in after her 5-6 ounces and she doesn't know the difference.

I was goin to post almost the same thing about Izaviaha. He is now doing way better with his weight and eating like a little PIG! 7 oz almost every 2 hrs and his formula is very thick. (We are using enfamil AR) He will be 6 months on the 6th of May and is still not eating any baby foods what so ever. I am now thinking he has out grown or some what overcome his reflux. he has been compleetly off meds since his 4 month checkup. spitting up rarely happens but the ped still wants to wait. I dont know if we can afford doing only formula much longer he is going through a whole can of powder a day. When I do give him a bit of food he has no idea what to do with it. Also when we eat in front of him he acts so jealous.
