I was just wondering when to start foods that she can munch on like cheerios and puffs and stuff like that.........she is almost 8 months old and sits independently and crawls.....she takes her cereal pretty thick and can handle stage 3 baby foods.......how do you start and what are the best kinds of foods to try?? I;m just so parnoid that she will choke......I guess just cause she only has 2 teeth but i know that doesnt matter. she does mash the thicker stuff with her tounge and that so i dont know

You can try the fruit/veggie puffs, they dissolve pretty fast and are easy as a first finger food. You can also try some soft cubed fruit and veggies like carrots or peaches. When we started with finger foods I also bought a safe feeder and Owen loved to eat his food from it.

First of all I Gerber puffs she wont choke on... they literally melt as soon as they get in the mouth! :) Overcooked Pasta and veggies are a great idea... I prefer plain Alphabits because they seem to dissolve faster and are softer than cheerios. Bananas are good... small pieces. Though if she has two teeth, she could probably have anything. I gave my daughter Apple and she did it herself. She held the pieces in her hand and rubbed them against her two little bottom teeth and she really enjoyed them!!
I'm trying to think what else I started with... that was pretty much the first things... mashed potatos... too.
My daughter started eating table food at 7 months and hasnt looked back lol she has pretty much solely been eating that since. She eats everything... and has been since I guess about 8 months. You will be surprised how well she will be able to handle food. I'm very paranoid that she will choke too!! lol So I know how you feel. Waffles and Pancakes are good too... Gerber Cereal bars too... but those might be for when she gets a little bigger. My daughter thinks she is bigger than she is! lol
Good luck!!!

Melanie, I love Owen's new picture!!! He is such a cutie!
I'm trying to start table foods with Connor right now too but he's not liking the textures very much. I may have to go back to purees which he didn't do well on. I tried giving him some banana in his feeder bag today, he did ok for a few minutes but made some really funny faces.

Thank you Kim,
At that age Owen didn't like the texture of mashed up tablefoods either, he would gag and vomit on anything with texture. Now he does better with the texture but we are back to square one because he doesn't tolerate too many things.
