My daughter will be 7 months next week. We started solids when she was 4 months. She used to do alright, couple of tea spoons. But recently she has just stopped opening her mouth for any solids. If does open it, she will only take 3-4 baby spoons and call it the end of the meal.
Has anyone experienced this? Is she not ready? Should I stop offering her solids and try again in a week? Also has anyone actually benefitted from feeding clinic?
Any input suggestions will be very helpful.
Thanks.

Andrew thrashed his food and the spoon when he was younger..It took him awhile to get use to...But after that he did well...I would say at 7 months your child should feel comfy with the spoon, if your doing it all the time. You can wait a week and see if it makes a difference, otherwise I may look into a feeding clinic, you could benefit??

Will she eat solids in any other way...like from your finger?

That sounds just like our Allie. We have videos of her opening her mouth for cereal at 4 months and now she won't budge. I try putting a little bit on her paci (she loves that) and then trying the spoon. It's either hit or miss, and I never know when she's going to eat. Sometimes she does great, other times, no way. We just found out she has severe DGE, so this could be the reason. Try to m ake feeding as fun as possible. Our OT suggested stripping her down and letting her make a huge mess with the food. That has seemed to help a little.

Now I'm depressed. We kind of went through the same thing with Daniel, and I so wish I could tell you how to fix this problem, but I can't.... If you have the opportunity to try a feeding clinic or specialist, go for it!

Sarah is like this as well. She refuses the spoon completely. She used to take some bites off the spoon two month ago but now nothing. She will pick up veggie puffs and put them in her mouth. I try to dip them in the puree so at least she gets to taste other things. I think feeding therpy is a good idea but if the reflux isn't under control then feeding therpy won't help very much. I agree with letting them play with the food. Sarah will get puree all over herself but won't put any in her mouth. I try to keep the feeding time playful. I don;'t know what to tell you but we are experiencing the same thing. I read that some babies start exerting their independance at this age and would rather take finger foods. So I am now trying to offer her more finger foods. She has some problems with textures in her mouth but we are working on it.
