AlexysandAaronsMom 03-24-2006, 07:53 PM I called the ped today demanding they do something for ALeyxs, she has been miserable for what seems like forever. She hasn't eaten in 2 days, yet still has flaming eczema on her face, a hive like rash that is coming and going,EXPLOSIVE diarrhea, a runny nose that she has had since January, and she is congested too. Most of these symptoms she has had for 2 months now. I have taken her in 3 times for this and there is never anything visibly wrong such as ear infections, etc.
THeir diagnosis? Allergy to something. How helpful is that? I have an appt with the allergist on the 5th, and until then I'm supposed to give her ONLY neocate, and the peds office is going to make a call to try and get her in sooner. They are thinking that she has developed an allergy to the soy formula. Is that even possible? She has been on it for months with no apparent problems. We did try soy milk, and that was a VERY bad experience. This is SO frustrating!!! I'm not totally convinced its an allergic reaction even though all signs DO point to one.
Carla 03-24-2006, 07:59 PM It is very possible that she developed an allergy to soy formula. Allergies take time to develop and they develop through repeated exposures to allergens like soy. Is there anything else she is eating? Have they considered environmental? That wouldn't explain the diarreah but it is possible that she may have an allergy to more than one thing--like with my daughter.
AlexysandAaronsMom 03-24-2006, 08:07 PM She is allergic to milk, that is the only allergy that has been proven. Other than that, she eats EVERYTHING. So where do I even start trying to figure it out?
EmmasMommy 03-24-2006, 08:09 PM I'm sorry to hear Alexys is battling this still! :( I hope you get in earlier and let us know what the allergist says!
sixdogssixcats 03-24-2006, 08:11 PM That stinks. I was hoping your post really was something wonderful. Did your dr at least give you some Neocate samples?
CadysMommy 03-24-2006, 08:29 PM That's too bad, Amy. I hope the allergist can help her. Hopefully, you've got some samples of the neocate to get you through. Maybe this elimination thing will be able to get her skin cleared up, then you can start over, under the guidance of the allergist.
Emily M 03-24-2006, 09:00 PM Amy, you could have made that diagnosis huh?? Sorry that she is having a rough time. I would say pull out things that are potential to her being highly allergic and see what happens, then reintroduce one thing at a time. Like maybe corn, soy, etc. I don't know, grasping here!
LaurensMommy 03-24-2006, 09:05 PM Sorry you are going through this Amy. And Neocate, you certainly don't need that expense.
Lauren was suspected to be MSPI, that's why they put her on Neocate. She has been on milk for a month, either mixed with neocate or by itself. Over the past week, her face has begun to break out. She now has a cold with congestion and runny nose. Don't know if this means she's allergic to milk, but like you, I would have thought this would have appeared sooner. You just never know do you?
AlexysandAaronsMom 03-24-2006, 09:22 PM No they didnt give me any samples, I didnt take her in just talked to them on the phone. Since she had just been seen a week ago for the same symptoms and a month before that, and a month before that, they didnt see the point in me bringing her in again. I am going to call and ask for some though...I definetly cant afford to foot the bill for neocate right now.
Debbie 03-24-2006, 09:31 PM The eczema is almost positive alleries, but to what. Are you going to have to go through the process of illimination with her? Jayden was also fine on soy for about a month and then just like that he couldn't eat it??? Ya just never know whats next.
She has alot of different symptoms it could be several things???
Leigh 03-24-2006, 09:45 PM Oh, this is not "wonderful" at all.
Is there any chance at all that some milk is getting in to her diet? You need to watch for not only milk and milk ingredients, but also casein and whey. Maybe some foodstuffs she is ingesting have been in contact with milk or have these ingredients in them?
Yes, she could be developing a soy allergy. Allergies can happen at any time in one's life. If you have one allergy then you are more likely to have another one as well. The chances do get slimmer as you age though, but are not out of the question.
{{{hugs}}}
Noah's Mom 03-24-2006, 10:01 PM Noah did fairly well with a soy trial around 3 months, but when we tried it again at about 8 months, he did TERRIBLY. He had a nasty rash, eczema, and was miserable 24/7. So, it is possible that Alexys has developed an allergy.
I hope she can get into the allergist sooner. It sounds like she's dealing with too much to have to wait that long. I hope the Neocate goes down better until then.
AndrewsMommy 03-24-2006, 10:05 PM Amy ....I hope you get in sooner and get some answers!
Let us know what the allergist says, and I too would cut everything out until you go...you may just have to start over:(
Good Luck....and hang in there, you doing a wonderful job with the two kiddos on your own:)
