Hi,

My son started soy formula last Friday because his ped suspects a milk intolerance. I know that it takes a couple of weeks to see a change when you switch formulas but I was just wondering what the symptoms of a soy intolerance are and how you know if they are mspi. Are the symptoms the same as a milk intolerance? His symptoms haven't really changed much and the eczema on his face has gotten worse.

Thanks,
Kate

Hmmm I'm not sure exactly but there are plenty of Mom's with MSPI babies here so someone will definitely be able to help you!!

I know when we give my daughter reg or soy formula she gets horrible tummy pains and bad gas. It keeps her up all night - those symptoms dont usually show for about 5 days though. Though my daughter hasnt been diagnosed mspi...

sorry and I hope someone has some advice for you!! :)

I would call the ped back and ask if they can check the stool for blood since there is exzema involved. Maybe I am wrong, but that sounds like an allergy to me.

1/2 of all kids allergic to cows milk are also allergic to soy. Are there any other symptoms other than ezxema? Tummy cramps, gas, vommiting, etc.?

There's notmuch you can do but watch and wait the 2 weeks, but I would definately ask if they can check her stools before she gets too into the new formula. If this one does not work they will rpobably recommend a hypoallergenic one.

Well, I had originally taken him to his ped because his reflux symptoms started acting up again and I thought that his Zantac might need to be adjusted. His ped told me that he's maxed out on the Zantac and that there isn't much else he can do for him so we're lloking into taking him to a GI. He's been extremly gassy and constipated since birth. He has had blood in his stools several times and he also has eczema and chronic congestion. He has all of the classic reflux symptoms as well so this seems to be a separate problem. I guess we'll have to wait it out. I'll probably call his doc tomorrow just to be sure.
