okay im going back to work in a week, and need to get this kid started on a bottle. The LC and ped both have recommended VERY slow flowing nipples, to minimize nipple confusion and to help the puking from the reflux. Apparently all we need to stop our kids from barfing is a slow flow nipple:doh: anyway, i need some ideas, i dont want to buy a ton of bottles/nipples and alexys only ever took regular plain old fashioned bottles , and I know her nips were never really really slow flow even the newborn ones. Suggestions?

Dr. Brown's makes a wide-based bottle with a nipple similar to the Playtex nursers. By far, Dr. Brown's is better than any bottle out there. Here's what I did to try them out. Go to Babies R' Us. Buy a single bottle and a three pack. Try out the single and if they don't work or he doesn't like them, you can still return the three pack and only have to fork over the $5 for the single. You can do that with any bottle you'd try. I'd try the Dr. Brown's first, though. The nipple is super-soft and the #1 nipple is very slow-flowing.

I would also try the Dr. Brown bottles. I swear by them now. My son was 10 months olds when I switched him to those and they have worked great for us. I wish I had known about them sooner (or even when my daughter was a baby). He seems to do better with the wider based nipple... as with the smaller nipples we use to use he would constantly let go of it and suck in a bunch of air. I know with the 3-pack I bought, they came with the #1 nipple, which is for the younger babies (we are using the #3's right now at 11 months).
The Dr. Brown's do have a few more pieces to wash, but for us those bottles made a world of difference. And I would also start with a slow flow nipple... that's what I did with my kids when I was still nursing them... they both did great with it. Hope this helps.

We use the widenecks that Judy is talking about. The nipple is very wide and is supposed to be more like BFing. The #1 flow is nice and slow. I use a #3 with Noah, but his is thickened, so it still flows very slow...just the way he likes it.
I hope Aaron takes to the bottle easily! Let us know how its going!

We used the avent bottles. If you get a size 1 for newborn nipple it suits breastfed babies. I have heard good things about the Dr Browns esp for colic and reflux though I never have tried them.

I'm no help to you as we don't get Dr Brown's bottles here and the boys were on prem nipples (from the neonatal service) for a long time. Can't get more slow-flowing than that!! ;-)
Good luck with everything and good luck with returning to work. Who will be looking after Alexys and Aaron for you?? I sure hope the transition is smooth for you......
