View Full Version : lactose =milk intolerance?
Emily M 03-22-2006, 08:50 AM I'm having a dilemma and I need some good advice
Jackson has been HORRIBLE! He is screaming like something hurts.
My dh read the ing. on our Prevacid solutabs and they have a small amount of lactose in them.
He is milk intollerant, that we know, does this mean that he can not handle lactose as well? I know that lactose is just sugar, so, does anyone know????
He did a little better last night **I gave him the powder packet w/no lactose in it** but I am wondering if it is a fluke. He is fine in the morning, around 4pm he gets bad, then on into the night.

Eliana's Mommy 03-22-2006, 09:17 AM does it say how much lactose is in the prevacid? haven't looked at milk lately but does it state how much lactose is in it?
eliana is lactose well kinda of... I think she grew out of it. up until 2 weeks ago she couldn't handle cow's milk due to the lactose ... but she could eat cheese and other dairy ... milk has more lactose in it then other dairy
eliana can now handle small amounts of cow's milk (12oz a day) and she also gets 16oz of pediasure a day.
not sure if this helps but hope you figure something out for Jackson
:hello2:
AndrewsMommy 03-22-2006, 09:48 AM Emily..I would ask the ped about it tomorrow when you go see them...
Make a list of all the questions you have been asking in regard to Lactose, and prevacid, and I would see what they have to say? I cannot imagine that there are large amounts of it in the prevacid, probably not enough to make him scream... SO I would definately ask?
AndrewsMommy 03-22-2006, 09:50 AM I meant to say too, I think he just has numerous things going on at once, growing pains, teething, Dairy intolerance....That is enough to make me scream...So I imagine they are all bothering the poor baby at the moment...Hopefully it all passes soon and he becomes the sleeping, happy, baby machine he was a few weeks back:)
Eliana's Mommy 03-22-2006, 10:24 AM I agree with Stacy too!

Emily M 03-22-2006, 06:48 PM Stacy, I think you are right, Judy said that Kady is on the solutabs and she is allergic to milk, and they don't bother her, so who knows! **pounding head**
I am making a list right now of all of my questions for my hottie GI. BTW, he is a hottie! LOL
thepeach80 03-23-2006, 03:56 PM The solutabs don't bother Evan, but I know several babies who are bothered by the lactose in the tabs. We tried Evan once on the packets and that was the biggest mistake ever! Ugh!
Jeanette-It sounds like Eliana was having problems w/ the milk proteins, not lactose. Unless you're born LI (she would've been very sick as an infant), you typicall don't see it start till 3-5 and it's typicall not outgrown. AJ was MSPI (is?) and now can have cheese and yogurt, but no milk still.
