Hi everyone,

Mackenzie is on Zantac and Prevacid for her silent reflux and has been doing really well for the last couple months. She's sleeping great and I don't see any reflux symptoms anymore. Of course just b/c I don't see the reflux symptoms doesn't mean it's not still there (our GI has no interest in weaning her from meds...and neither do I!).

Our ped says we can start solids whenever we'd like. She just turned four months, so I'm in no real hurry to move her to that stage. But, I'm wondering what advice/lessons learned you all can share with me about starting solids with a silent refluxer? I know every DC is different...but did you all find it was better to delay solids? Are there certain things I should avoid, etc?

I'd love any general advice you can share.

Thanks,
Nicole

Jackson is a silent refluxer, my advice is start w/the orange veggies first, I've been told they are easier to digest.
I made the mistake and gave Jackson some greenbeans, which he loved, but then he screamed. They really hurt him.
I really don't have any more advice, as we are still trying to sort it all out ourselves!
Good luck!

4mo is really, really young, but if you're adventurous and have your dr's OK, then go for it.

My daughter would not voluntarily open her mouth for any solid until she was about 6 1/2mo. We'd been trying since 3mo after her GI and both peds wanted her on cereal at that age.

She still is a temperamental eater with good days and bad ones.

We have been having a lot of problems with solids here which we are trying to work out. Does she eat any cereal? If not, you could start giving her some rice cereal and see how she does. Our GI advised us to wait until closer to 6 months to start fruits and veggies.
