I am just curious about how you know if they are still refluxing. We are 4 months post fundo and the complaints are becoming more common. Every morning I hear "my tummy hurts" and Molly often complains of pain "right here" (smack in the middle of the breat bone). She is still on 40mg of Nexium and 20 mg of Reglan. At 6 she still can't really tell me if the tummy pains are from a hungry tummy or an "owie" tummy. She has also gotten the "big" hiccups a few times recently. I don't want to make something out of nothing, but I am not sure what to make of all of this. We have our 6 month follow up in June, so I can still wait and see how things progress. I also found out yesterday that food is still getting stuck, she apparently just started dealing with it and quit mentioning when it happened. We were at dinner and she casually mentioned that when the food gets stuck, it helps to drink a little water and then wait. I was shocked! I honestly thought she had gotten past all of that. We are getting ready to move in a couple of weeks (not far, she will still go to the same school) and I am wondering if she is stressing and that is causing problems. Molly is the oldest 6 year old I have ever met - she listens and understands WAAAAY to well. We try not to "talk shop" in front of her, but we live in a small house!

There are a few Moms on here who's kids are still refluxing post Fundo...Hopefully they will chime in soon and give you the answers you need!
Good Luck

When food gets stuck it causes the wrap to swell and it can cause pain in the middle of the chest like that. Also, it is about that point in time when things can seem worse and you may think it is reflux but it is actually still healing and it swells as it heals and all the stitches and everything can get irritated, when you push foods past this it swells even more causing pain, tummy aches, and makes it more difficult to get food passed. I am willing to bet this is what it is and not reflux symptoms. Although it definitely could be.
But this same fact is the reason why I say it took us a good year before we were happy with the results because we went through the same situations of not sure what was going on, but it was just healing and it takes a long time. Now I have seen a pattern with other kids during the recovery. Hang in there!
When she does have these symptoms I would go back to a full liquid diet for a few days and let the wrap recover. Obviously you can talk to the GI about reflux concerns as well, we did the same thing. But, it was the wrap healing we are sure of now. And, that is exactly what our son was feeling as well. But, they also mimic reflux symptoms so who knows?? I hope that helps in some way LOL

Erin has said it quite well and explained everything. My son is post fundo 5yrs out and still at times get things stuck.
What I was wondering is if your dd clears as soon as she drinks or does it take some time to do so?
As Erin said everytime things get stuck the wrap will swell and can irratated. This can cause the pain in the chest and also in the stomach. because of the force needed to clear.
I was wondering if your doc is thinking about doing a ph probe post surgery? Two of my chidren had them done after thier fundos because of pain. We did see that they were refluxing past wrap but nothing like pre fundo.
I do wish you luck and hope that things improve soon.

Melanie and Erin,
We were never told this--at least I don't remember that being the case! I can look back and see times where this probably occured. Let me clarify--I knew things could get stuck, that happened a couple times, at least obviously. I didn't realize that it swells though and gets irritated so even after it hurts still. I look back and wonder in the beginning stages especially--how much was of the pain that high from that and if she was actually refluxing or not (or trying to reflux at least). That was around the time she went on Nortriptyline and her pain meds were increased shortly after, so I wont ever really know what it was.
I sure am thankful that someone is *finally* going to check it though! Thanks for the info even though it wasn't my original post!!!!!!

I think Elis still swells and he has several bad days after one to big of a bite. So, we just go back to liquids for a few and it takes care of it. It does mimic reflux.
