Iain is sitting here by me playing at the table and I said "I love you" to him and got a "I ya u" back!!!!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!! I almost missed it!

This represents 3 words together and a imitation again but I am sure we can get this into his repetoire! I am ready to cry. This fella is very speech delayed but WOW when he imitates he does a great job!

Pardon me while I go and hug my critter!

Apparently he is going to be stingy with the I love yous. No more yet but I am sure we can work on that. His expressive vocab is the pits and that is what brings him down so far on the charts for testing. We have yet to get a formal eval back (it was done but still needs to be mailed to me). His eval is very low and still places him around the 12 month level for speech. I learned a lot at the second eval (or continuation of the first eval) but she was right. He only does have about 5 "words" in his expressive vocab.

We go for another visit to her next month and he starts the program sometime in May I think. He will catch up.

Fantastic. Those magic words. Usually once they start, they don't stop.

You know Jean there are few words in combination like I love you to make you realize that everything is so very worth it.:smt060 :love5:

**sigh** I am still walking on air. Bill is sad he missed it.

Fabulous. Alex's, my son with verbal apraxia, first words at 3.5 yrs were Happy mothers day (not said clearly, but said). I did cry, very loudly, while hugging the breath out of him.
Way to go Iain, make your mother proud.

(At 6, I can't stop him talking now!)

He is promised to Cady, so no roaming around for Mr. Iain! Will you whack me if he tells Cady he loves her when we meet?! lol

He has not said it again. At all. In any way, shape or form. He only repeated it from me and I KNOW I heard him and was not having a moment. So, I will give it a rest and see if he does it again. It is not like he hears this phrase infrequently anyway! "No" has been his shining example of expressive speech for the last few days. Must say it is pretty clear and often used in multiples, so I wonder if my speech therapist will accept that as an attempt at sentencing? It sure does meet the expressive requirement! LMBO

He is so proud when he learns something. His eyes just dance so and he lights up the room with his belly laugh.

Pam, I did not know that Alex had apraxia. How is he now? And do they know the cause?

Leigh, as long as you don't whack me if Cady gives Iain a big ole smooch when they meet. I've got a kisser on my hands here.

Leigh

Gotta love the kissy ones! Iain is not a kissy fella at all, so Cady will have to be prepared for him to play it cool in that department at least for now.:smt047 Hugs are not out of the question but I must warn you he comes at you doing mach 10 when he is intent on giving you one. LOL Iain is going through the "razzing" stage presently. Forgotten how much fun that is. My other two went through this much earlier if I remember correctly. With any luck we will have our happy razzer calmed down by the time he has to impress Cady. It should still be interesting to see them have a meal together....:burp:

Well, tonight I have had 2 unsolicited "ya"s flung at me! Nothing else, but "ya". I will take that as a big positive and put it into the expressive category regardless of what the SLP says. 2 "no" s tonight and one long alien or Klingon speak thing going on, but then again Spongebob is on and he is telling me about it so maybe it is appropriate!

To the people who have used sign language, have you noticed that your critter has stopped using the signs they know for awhile at times? I am wondering why on earth as he is not saying the words either. Strange. He knows how to do very few signs but I am signing to him all the time and using the words. It is like a switch went off for speech and signs again.

You are seeing and hearing so many new things with Iain these days, Leigh! I'm absolutely thrilled for you!!!

Regarding your sign language question, we found that the signs came and went a few times before the words started and we dropped the signs altogether. I think that our little ones are just so overwhelmed with the new things that they're learning, that it's hard to remember it all, and also that they need a break from it from time to time.

My problem is that he has stopped saying what I do know he knows, you know?! He is not saying "mo", "peas", "milk", or anything else right now. We are back to screeching. Drat. He was doing the sign for more and please but now is not. I know he can not do the signs for anything much else yet as he does not have the capability but at least he was trying. Just a phase I guess.

Too COOOL!

I hope he says it again and again.
That combo is much better than
"Ma Ba Butt"
Translated:
Mom's Belly button
LOL
WTG Iain!

BTW
All of Eric's good ol stand bys have gone away too. Now he's just imatating (kinda poorly) and jibber jabbering again.
I was all excited that he started saying "yes" and nodding his head, but then realized he was saying it to every question.
UGH! How I wish we could pop into their little heads and bodies and check things out.

Alexys did the same thing, all i hear is "EIEIO" without the O, yes, and dadadadadada. A month ago she was saying mom, bye, daddy, thank you, please(peas), no, sissy(my sister), ba-ba, and num nums , now we are down to three words and she REFUSES to say anything else. My point is, as frustrating as it may be for you, it is perfectly normal for kids to learn something and then just not do it anymore. He is still very young, he will get it. And when he does decide to reward you with a word it will make it even more special!!!!
