Josie is 13 months old and has reflux and is on Prilosec. She started refusing food only about 1 month after starting baby food. This went on for about 3 months. Now she will eat, but only stage II foods thinkened just a LITTLE bit with oatmeal or rice. If too thick she gags terribly. I tried little pieces of fruit and the gerber puffs. No go just gags.

I have a follow-up appt. with her GI Dr. and the nurse seemed to think she may need feeding therapy. Just wondering feeding therapy is and what they do. Any info. would be appreciated.

It sounds like in Josie's case they may have you work with an OT or ST on desensitizing her gag reflex. Likely your first appointment would be an evaluation with a few different people who want to see how well she can eat (i.e. the stage two foods) and how poorly she eats (the finger foods), and they'll probably look at other things like posture in her high chair, the way she closes her lips around a spoon, etc.
