Has anyone tried Singulair granules on an infant/toddler? My son has taken the chewable tablets since he was 4 1/2 (only approved for kids over 5 at the time), but they're hard and Catherine doesn't have the upper teeth to actually chew them.

Singulair is now approved for infants over 12 months. Breathing treatments every 3 hours just aren't doing what we need them to do so we've got to look at other options. Catherine has an appt with a new ped tomorrow so I want to ask about this. Her chest is still rattly after two weeks of nebs every 3-4 hours every day. All that crud is just a breeding ground for yet another infection. The new ped practice where I'm taking her actually has a research group where they conduct asthma studies among other ped issues.

Hello there again!,
We are headed to the ped. for Kyra's allergy shot and I'm picking up a script for Singulair from the dr. also for Kylie. She is only well one week at a time then boom, another sinus infection, allergic shiners, incessant rubbing of the eyes and nose. Since Singulair is for outdoor and indoor allergies too, she wants to give that a shot. She told me that it could be given by sprinkling into her food? Kyra(older kiddo who has asthma) has been put on it also starting a week ago. If all goes well, I'll know more by tonight. Good luck tomorrow and you're lucky to have a ped. associated with the asthma studies!!

Good luck with your new Ped.. don't forget to update! ;-)

My ped. changed her mind and put Kylie on Zyrtec. I'm glad though since I did not know Singulair was not for under 12 months. No help here, sorry!

It's actually not approved for some kinds of allergens under 2 years. We need it as an asthma med. Any allergy-reducing properties will just be icing on the cake.

I do have to say it doesn't do anything for my son's airborne allergies. He has to take Claritin daily as well and always has.

I hope you get some answers tomorrow. Kyra has had no relief from so many medicines. Tried Zyrtec, Claritin, Clarinex, along with many different kinds of Antihistamine/Decongestant/Cough Suppressant Combos. We've even given the combos for months at a time and still a sinus infection one week after finishing each antibiotic. Hopefully, the shots will work as they are supposed to.
