Well, I started thickening Mason's bottle today. Not knowing what thickened formula should look like I just guessed and made it look like heavy cream. (Please tell me if it should be thicker or thinner)

Well, it clogged up the holes in his bottle (we Dr.Browns) so I went out and bought the Y nipples.

Well, Mason cleared a 6 oz bottle in 10 minutes (including burp time). He is 7 weeks old. He did not choke at all though, he just gulped it all down. Will it hurt him to eat that fast?He has been eating 6 oz bottles for a while now and he didn't cry for more after and didn't seem to be too bothered.

He normally swallows a lot of air and refluxes like crazy on the thinned Neocate. So I by far prefer this....I just wondered how bad it is for a baby to eat so fast, lol. I can't believe he wasn't choking.

P.S. Sorry my font is all over the place, something is screwy on my PC....I must have my DH look at it.

Cady's always sucked back her thickened formula from the Dr. Brown's Y-cuts really fast. 5-8 minutes tops. It's just the way the Y-cuts are made. As long as he didn't choke and isn't all filled up with air and is keeping everything down, then don't worry about it. Sounds like the thickening is working, though, if he didn't choke while drinking.

Curran was lightening fast at draining a bottle and the nurses even commented on it while we were there. He was cleared for 6 ounce feeds by our ped when we left the hospital and he was only 2 days old. It depends on the kid. Iain never drained the same way and used to tongue and do a butterfly thing with his tongue on the bottle for ages. Still does from time to time.

I would not worry unless he is showing distress from it. We would pull Curran away from the bottle at 4 ounces and get a screaming fit that made him puke and take in more air so we let him tell us when he was ready to burp.
