I have a 2.5 year old daughter that will be 3 in August. I thought she would have outgrown this by now! She is constantly wheezy, has hiccups and juicy burps. She also get sick very easily. She's suppose to start pre-school in September but I'm thinking of holding her back until she gets healthier. When is this going to end??????

Oh hon if anyone had that answer they would be rich. Truth is no one knows and every child and every situation is different.

Has she had reflux since infancy? I have three boys and my 2 year old and 4 year old are on meds for it presently. My 6 year old is likely needing some help now with it as well, but he is much better off than my others.

I understand how horrid it is when they get sick so often and the thought of sending them to a school is just frightening. My guys go to daycare and although I did start my 4 year old in school I pulled him in December. It was not entirely because of reflux but also for his chronic bowel issues. We will try him again in school likely by the begining of April. You do not have to send her right now but you could always try and see how it goes. She may really benefit from the environment (minus the germs! lol) and thrive emotionally there. My middle and youngest also have breathing issues.

Is your daughter on meds? Have you posted her story? I am sorry if I have not come across it yet.

You just have to make a choice based on what you know and make the school aware of any special considerations for your daughter. My school has a puke and you go home policy and I was being called to go and pick him up for relux pukes. Great. My ped will write a note for when we return that one puke without a fever does not warrant a trip home especially if the child is fine afterwards. It helps to have a ped's note going in I have found.

Please let me know of any other concerns you may have. It IS possible to send her to school and it IS possible to have them help you there.

Hopefully soon! My son is 18months and still refluxing but I can say he is better than before. i have a better understanding of his condition and he is on good meds now so I am hoping for even better days.

you will do what you need to do, don't be afraid to hold her back if you need. has she had her meds checked lately are they working good?

Boy do I wish I had the magic answer for you. I have four children and all of them are still on meds for reflux.

I do know though as they have gotten older it is easier on them. I felt the same way as you do when sending my kids to preschool. Two of my children have chronic sinus and ear issues causing them to have problems with their asthma.

I did end up sending my kids to preschool and they did end up with a lot of respitory infections though. Our ped and pulmo worked with us and thought that it was good to send them to preschool.

I do know that this is a personal choice but may not be a bad idea to try and see what happens. I do wish you luck.

Hello and sending (((((hugs)))) Our son is 3 1/2. What kind of meds does your child take and do you think it could be the dose amount??

I am sorry to hear that your child is still suffering with this. It is so frustrating isn't it?

Hi all... My daughter, Elana, is on Prevacid, Albuterol, Pulmicort and Nasonex. She was on Singulair but her doctor took her off b/c her allergy test came back normal. Also, we don't think the medicine was helping at all. At 6 weeks old (she's now 2.5), Elana was diagnosed with reflux. She is aspirating into her lungs but we don't know where. She also has a delay in her stomach emptying. However, her Ph probe was normal.

This morning, she woke up very wheezy and breathing fast. I called her pulmonary doctor and her put her on Orapred for a couple days. It seems to help but I hate giving her the oral steroids. I hate giving her all the breathing treatments. She's been on antibiotics so much the past 2.5 years that I'm afraid she's going to become immune to them. I'm afraid that all these meds I'm giving her is going to hurt her in the long run. However, if I don't do anything, the worst can happen. I feel damned if I do and damned if I don't. I just feel so sad for her that she has to go through this.

I know how you feel about being darned if you do and darned if you don't. Just hang in there and keep trying to get him the help that he needs! It will get better! I thought it never would but it finally has for us, there is hope!!
